About Us
Zingerman’s Mail Order is the online and catalog shop for Zingerman’s. We ship great food and gifts all across America, everything from bread and cheese to cured ham and tinned fish.


The holidays at Zingerman's Mail Order are exciting, fast-paced and a lot of fun. We grow from a crew of 100 to a team of nearly 500. People come to work here from all walks of life. Moms, dads, students, retirees, landscapers, artists. Some people are in between jobs. For some folks, this is their first job. Some join us for the season, while others may wish to seek long-term opportunities. Every reason for joining is welcomed - no prior experience required. Many of our current team members began their journey with us as part of our holiday crew!

What kinds of things do you do in this job?
We take care of customers. They call, chat, email, fax and mail in their orders (yes, paper orders still happen!)

  • We talk on the phone with many people each day.
  • We email and chat online with customers.
  • We train new holiday staff. 
  • We help our corporate clients each step of the way with their orders.
  • We do the little things that knock our customers' socks off. Both socks! 

What is the pay?
$16.50 per hour


Where is this job?
This is a job in our Service Center located at 720 Phoenix Drive, Ann Arbor MI 48108.  We are on the AATA bus route


What does it take to get hired in our Service Center?
There are lots of qualities we are hoping to find in anyone who applies. But we don’t have a lot of hoops to jump through. Absolutely no prior experience is necessary. There are just five key things you’ll need to be able to do:

  1. You can type at least 40 words per minute. We’ll conduct a test. Feel free to prep and take practice runs at typingcore.com.
  2. You know your way around a computer and the internet.
  3. You can communicate fluently in English (reading, speaking and writing).
  4. You can commit to training which will be 3 shifts. You can choose between day & evening sessions.
  5. You are available to work a minimum of three shifts per week. We're open seven days a week. The three (or more) shifts may be any combination of the shift times below. (Multiple options that work for you are better, or you may opt to have all be from the same shift time.)

Shift 1: 8:45am – 4pm
Shift 2: 9am - 2pm
Shift 3: 10am - 6pm
Shift 4: 2pm - 9:30pm
Shift 5: 4:30pm - 12:30am (shift ends at 9:30pm Oct-Nov)
Shift 6: 5pm - 10pm (shift ends at 9:30pm Oct-Nov)


If you’re offered a holiday position in the Service Center at Zingerman’s Mail Order, a criminal background check will be required. While we’re open to hiring individuals with certain types of past convictions, the nature of our work (handling customer payments and financial information) means that we’re unable to hire candidates with specific types of criminal histories.


Will I get full time work?
We aim to. The more shifts you can work the more likely you’ll get full time.

When does this job begin and end?
Work can start as early as mid September and ends on or around December 23, 2025. You can pick your start date. We have training groups through the fall.


Can I apply for year round work after the job ends?
Yes! We encourage it - almost all of us who work here started as seasonal holiday crew. We usually have a limited number of positions at Mail Order and elsewhere in the Zingerman's Community of Businesses after the job ends.

What's the hiring process like?

Take your time and be accurate on your application; the info you provide helps us decide who to interview. If selected, we’ll invite you to a virtual interview. By the end of that conversation, you’ll know if you’ve got the job and when your first paid training shift will be. You'll get to choose from several start dates, some as soon as the following week. Our goal is to get you working, and paid, as quickly as possible.
