Additional Information: Show/Hide Ledyard Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute District English Learners Teacher beginning in October and continuing through approximately mid-January 2026 based on the needs of the district. The successful candidate will work under the District EL Coordinator and building principals to facilitate student success and growth in English learning.
Responsibilities:
Keep abreast of current theory, research and best practices in EL
Attend/seek out professional development
Connect/network with EL organizations and colleagues
Effectively consult and collaborate with school personnel and other professionals regarding student placement, materials, and instruction
Attend appropriate building-level meetings related to EL
Support classroom teachers who work with EL students
Facilitate professional development
Help plan professional development sessions based on the needs of the district
Present and/or facilitate professional development sessions
Establish instructional programming and provide direct instruction to students who are identified as needing EL support
Use district programs and protocols to provide instruction for students
Administer the LAS Links
Communicate with parents and families
Provide families with strategies and resources they can use at home
Share student data and progress toward goals

Required:
Teaching Certification
TESOL Preferred
Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
Job requires working at different locations throughout the district; reliable transportation is desired
Pay:
The daily rate for substitute teachers is $130. Please note for long term substitute positions (40+ days): The daily rate for long term substitute teachers with certification is $278.61 beyond the 40th consecutive day worked in the same assignment.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to teach each child
