Job Title: Operations Truck Driver - Part Time
Location: Omaha Public Schools Service Center, 4041 N. 72nd Street
Reports To: Executive Director - Supply Chain
Work Schedule: 5.5 Hours per day, Monday - Friday - 6:30 a.m. - 12:00 Noon
Salary Schedule: This is a part-time non-negotiated position. Salary grade 33R
Position Purpose: The Operations Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of food, supplies, equipment, mail, and other content as assigned by Omaha Public Schools to schools and various locations.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Checks deliveries for accuracy and completeness. Load and unload cargo following proper procedures and ensuring it is secured properly for transport. Cargo is palletized, banded, shrink-wrapped, or secured as appropriate to prevent damage and properly maintain load.
- Plans and follows efficient routes to ensure timely deliveries while adhering to traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
- Conduct regular pre and post operation inspections of vehicle prior to operation, perform basic maintenance tasks, and report any vehicle and mechanical issues to maintenance personnel and dispatcher.
- Maintain vehicle maintenance inspection forms weekly and as required. Maintain documentation and communication to dispatcher for all deliveries.
- Completes all work orders, duties and tasks in a timely manner as assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Participates in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
- Meets regular and predictable attendance requirements and communicates with dispatcher regarding attendance.
- Maintain a positive attitude with customers and provide excellent service during deliveries and pick-ups.
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position requires the ability to use liftgates, forklifts, manual and powered Pallet jacks, and other delivery equipment.
Travel: Local travel will be required.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
- Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Work in an office environment, school buildings and warehouse setting.
- Ability to lift, move and reposition objects and materials- frequently exerting force equal to lifting fifty to one hundred (50-100) pounds.
Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
- Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance:
- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

A high school diploma or equivalency required.

A valid Driver’s License and a safe driving record required.

CDL-Class B, required.
- Operations drivers are required to hold a valid Health Department Card - training and testing provided.

A satisfactory attendance and work record.

Meets insurability requirements of the School District Carrier.

Ability to give and receive job-related instructions.

Ability to receive and process verbal information, and to respond to non-verbal sounds.

Ability to read and interpret visual displays.

Body mobility which allows the worker to stand, walk, climb, stoop, maintain balance, and physically handle objects and materials.

Willingness and ability to interact courteously with building personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment
This position is treated as a classified part-time non-exempt position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
The offer of employment is contingent upon:
- Obtaining and providing verification of all licenses, certificates, and other requirements for the position (e.g., Paraprofessionals obtaining “Highly Qualified status,” etc.), as identified.
- A background check which demonstrates to OPS that background is acceptable for the position.
- Verification of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for position offered).
- Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required for position offered).
- Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination to determine ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
