BioMarin’s Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin’s cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.

Business Operations Specialist - 12 Month Assignment

4 day per week onsite 

Reporting into the Associate Director,  Business Operations at Shanbally, the Business Operations Specialist will be expected to support continuous improvement deployment across the business.
In parallel, the role holder will increase their own technical capability and business knowledge through training and gaining on the job experience.
This role will support the Business Operations team to build site-wide performance excellence, primarily through the use of lean and six sigma methodologies.
This role adds value by 1) supporting the business to accelerate the strategic improvement journey and 2) building Operational Excellence capability across the organisation and 3) implementing robust OE infrastructure to sustain the improvement journey. 
  • Support the ‘on the ground’ implementation of Lean solutions on site to help maximize overall site performance. Key elements for deployment will include visual metrics, performance management, 5S, standard work, LSW and gemba to support the business.
  • Partner with Flow Team leaders to define an annual CI Improvement Plan to include DMS targets, RCAR capability build, Value Realisation and Greenbelt and specific KPIs to measure the improvements
  • Support the Flow Team leaders to deliver the CI Improvement Plan by providing training, coaching and facilitation of improvement Kaizens
  • Partner and support the implementation of lean solutions
  • Continuously challenge the status quo in terms of performance and process on site.
  • Process owner for the RCAR programme, including planning and delivery of training, certification and measurement of benefits
  • Support the Business Operations FLT and metrics tracking
  • Proactively work with sister site in Novato, US to maintain alignment and share best practices.
  • Represent Shanbally at RCAR sharing forum – supporting the preparation of presentations and presenters

EDUCATION
  • Science, Engineering or Business background preferred but not essential.
  • Formal Lean, Reengineering and/or Six Sigma training preferred but not essential.
 
EXPERIENCE
  • Must have a demonstrated track record in driving performance
  • A demonstrated track record in working with people, understanding customer/client dynamics.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industry.
  • Sound knowledge of cGMPs and equivalent industry regulations.
  • Experience in systems thinking.
  • Knowledge and previous work experience with process mapping, Lean Six Sigma and Business Process Reengineering would be preferable.
  • Knowledge of performance measurement tools and metrics.
