Start your career in public service.  The Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) is the division within DHS that enhances the well-being of children by locating non-custodial parents; establishing paternity and support orders; enforcing and modifying support obligations; and collecting and distributing child support payments. This program promotes parent accountability and self-sufficiency while reducing the public responsibility for providing financial and medical support to children. DCSS also administers several outreach programs including but not limited to Fatherhood, Prison Re-Entry, and Parental Accountability Court.  All of these outreach initiatives are devoted to increasing non-custodial parental involvement in the child's life. 

The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), The Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) is seeking candidates for the position of Accounting Technician 1  (Financial Operations Generalist 1). This position is based in Rome, Floyd County, Georgia. 

Note: The Region 1 office covers the Cartersville, Dalton, Douglasville, Rock Spring, Rome, Dallas, and Marietta DCSS offices. If space permits, candidates could choose to sit at any one of these offices but must conduct mandatory training in Rome, Georgia.

Position Duties

Pay Grade: G

Under direct supervision, performs paraprofessional accounting and fiscal control functions, such as accounts payable and receivable, payroll preparation, budget monitoring or related general accounting processes.

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Researches financial reports and resolves undistributed collections to expedite processing of child support payments in accordance with federal, state, and agency procedures. 
  • Interacts with field and state office personnel to ensure any financial problems are addressed quickly and efficiently to ensure child support payments are disbursed timely. 
  • Performs other professional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor, manager, director, or leadership team. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED AND Two (2) years of job-related accounting or fiscal experience.
OR 
  • One (1) year of experience at the lower level Accounting Technician Trainee (FIT019) or equivalent position. 
Preferred Skills/Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all of the following skills/experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business curriculum from an approved, accredited college or university AND Two (2) years of work experience performing accounting or fiscal control functions. 
  • Associate’s degree in business curriculum from an approved, accredited college or university AND Two (2) years of work experience performing accounting or fiscal control functions.
  • Four (4) years of experience performing accounting and/or fiscal control functions.
