A family in Portugal is seeking a kind, patient, and engaging weekly English tutor for their 13-year-old son (8th grade). The student is eager to improve his grammar, oral practice, and overall confidence in English. The family is ideally looking for someone who speaks Portuguese or has an understanding of it to better support communication.
Schedule: Once per week | Thursday mornings
- On occasion-additional hour for the week, for test preparation
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: Tentative June (end of school year)
- Commitment: Ongoing, for the school year

Responsibilities
- Support the development of English grammar, oral fluency, and comprehension
- Adjust conversation practice to match 8th grade curriculum level in Portugal
- Guide the student through practice activities and games to build engagement
- Foster confidence and fluency through structured oral exercises
- Provide grammar support and correction in a positive, encouraging manner
- Track progress and adapt sessions to the student’s evolving needs
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about the student’s growth
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of paid tutoring or teaching experience with middle school students
- Experience teaching English as a second language preferred
- Familiarity with curriculum expectations in Portugal a plus
- Portuguese-speaking or Portuguese comprehension preferred
- Able to pass a background and social media check
- 2 professional references from paid care/tutoring roles
Compensation
This position pays €16–20 per hour for 1 session per week, with occasional additional hours for test preparation. Long-term commitment preferred through the end of the school year.
