Session: 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Pay Rates:: $75 per hour
Job Summary:
Bank Street School for Children (BSC) is seeking an Art Portfolio Instructor. We are looking for a dynamic individual who embodies our values of integrity and youth development. Under the supervision of the Auxiliary Programs team, the Art Portfolio instructor will conduct a weekly class. The ideal candidate will have experience with 5th – 8th-grade students and an understanding of social and emotional learning.
Responsibilities:
- Guide students in selecting, refining, and presenting artwork for middle-to-high school portfolio requirements.
- Teach portfolio organization, photography of artwork, and digital submission best practices.
- Provide individualized feedback to help students articulate their artistic vision.
- Design and deliver engaging lessons in drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art.
- Integrate art history, contemporary practices, and cultural perspectives into the curriculum.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Conduct art sessions once a week.
- Handle administrative responsibilities as necessary.
- Communicate weekly with families via email.
- Build relationships with students, faculty, and family members.
- Enforce BSC principles and values of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Be an effective communicator who can mentor students.
- Model professional leadership and encourage positive behavior by adhering to BSC rules and regulations.
- Implement appropriate safety measures to ensure the well-being of students.
- Oversee the dismissal of students after every practice.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience teaching art with school-age children.
- Preferred experience in youth art programming.
- Willingness to collaborate as part of a team and develop skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the whole class.
