Sales Engineer – Federal Government & Department of Defense

Your Impact

Axon is the developer and manufacturer of digital evidence management software, conducted electrical weapons, body-worn cameras, and digital evidence management solutions. By successfully applying technical solutions to long-standing challenges in digital evidence management, Axon has redefined technology for public safety agencies worldwide.
We are seeking a high-energy, results-driven Federal Sales Engineer to accelerate our Federal Government and Department of Defense initiatives. This role requires someone who thrives on pitching technology to senior leadership, program managers, contracting officers, and technical stakeholders across the federal ecosystem. You will play an instrumental role in driving mission adoption, navigating federal procurement processes, and ensuring compliance with complex government regulations.
This is not a traditional pre-sales role—it requires a deep understanding of how agencies procure, the nuances of federal contract cycles, and the ability to network effectively within the unique culture of Federal and DoD environments.

What You’ll Do

Location: Remote within the United States; up to 50% travel
Reports to: VP of Customer Operations, Federal

  • Achieve mastery of all Axon technologies and Federal-specific deployment models.
  • Leverage exceptional written and oral communication skills to lead technical demonstrations and solution briefings to agency executives, contracting officials, IT leadership, and frontline operators.
  • Engage confidently with CIOs, CISOs, and technical staff, as well as Contracting Officers and Program Managers, bridging technical solutions with procurement requirements.
  • Understand and anticipate the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) processes, aligning Axon’s value to contract vehicles, procurement timelines, and fiscal year funding cycles.
  • Provide 1st-level technical expertise throughout the pre-sales cycle, from requirements capture through proposal submission and Proof of Concept (POC) support.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, stakeholders, and system integrators to influence contract strategies and long-term adoption.
  • Support the RFI/RFP process by delivering technically compliant and compelling responses.
  • Position Axon’s technology against competitors with a deep understanding of Federal compliance needs such as FedRAMP, CJIS, ITAR, and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Represent Axon at federal and defense-focused industry events, conferences, and agency technology summits.
  • Take ownership of the POC/Pilot process: coordinate logistics across stakeholders, assess agency mission requirements, and tailor solutions to meet operational needs.
  • Capture feature requests and field intelligence, translating feedback to Product, Engineering, and Federal Programs teams.
  • Draft Statements of Work (SOW) aligned with federal contracting requirements and ensure technical language supports compliance for binding quotes.
  • Remain organized, adaptable, and mission-driven while operating in a fast-paced federal contracting environment.

What You Bring

    • Demonstrated understanding of Federal procurement cycles, acquisition timelines, and government budgeting processes.
    • Experience selling SaaS-based solutions with knowledge of compliance requirements (FedRAMP, CJIS, DoD IL environments).
    • Experience in networking, storage, virtualization, or related technologies.
    • Familiarity with major Federal contract vehicles (GSA Schedule, SEWP, FirstSource, etc.) and how to position solutions for these pathways.
    • Strong technical acumen in routing/switching, cloud platforms, cybersecurity practices, and video/data management solutions.
    • Experience developing Statements of Work (SOW) or similar technical contract documents.
    • Intermediate knowledge of routing and switching methodologies, telecommunications, and Internet technologies.
