About the Department
The Westerville Electric Division is seeking a highly dedicated, proud, professional, and service-oriented Journey Lineworker (Journeyman) to join a tight-knit team of 47 full-time employees. As a Westerville Journeyman, you will have a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive experience in overhead, underground, and distribution automation systems within a safe and supportive culture. Day-to-day, you will work on a team of four line personnel (one journeyman, two apprentices, and one line supervisor) and also alongside Westerville’s engineers, operators, traffic team, and metering technicians. Westerville’s Journeymen work four 10-hour days and have opportunities for overtime and traveling for mutual aid.

Position Duties
Minimum Qualifications
Performs line construction and maintenance work; responds to customer calls; installs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground lines and distribution equipment; sets new poles, strings conductors, and makes splices and taps; performs primary, secondary, overhead, and underground line and cable work; locates, diagnoses and repairs electrical distribution problems; upgrades primary conductors, converts primary circuits to higher voltages.
Installs conductors, transformers, reclosers, switches, and primary fuses in transformers; tests voltage and loads of lines and customer service entrances; connect and disconnects temporary services.
Climbs wood and steel poles and other elevated structures; operates bucket and digger trucks, trenching machines, backhoe, forklift, and other heavy equipment; operates substation.
Communicates with the public; explains power outages and other electrical problems; responds to complaints of power problems.
Installs, repairs, and maintains street lights.
Cleans and maintains trucks and equipment.
May assume duties in absence of the Supervisor.
Performs other related duties as required.
Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, and tools, and equipment used in the installation, extension, and repair of electric lines.
Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards of the job.
Considerable knowledge of the safe and correct use of heavy equipment, hand and power tools common to the work.
Knowledge of electrical theory.
Ability to locate, diagnose, and repair defects in electrical distribution system.
Ability to climb poles and to perform maintenance on high voltage lines.
Ability to train subordinate linemen.
Ability to work precisely under extreme weather conditions.
Ability to meet physical demands of the job including pole climbing.
Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret electrical diagrams and plans.
Ability to operate tools and heavy equipment used in electrical distribution installation, maintenance, and repair operations.
Ability to communicate effectively with other employees, contractors, other agencies, and the public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to use computers and various software programs.
Available for twenty-four hour emergency call.
Other Qualifications
Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR Training certification.
Completion of Power Lineman Courses and Certification as Journeyman Lineman.
