Position: Maintenance Technician Sr/ Lead
Shift: 1st Shift (8 hours)
Compensation: $36-$40, depending on Years of Experience
Overview of Role:
The Senior Maintenance Technician Lead is an expert-level position responsible for overseeing and coordinating mechanical and electrical maintenance activities within a facility. This role requires a high degree of technical proficiency and operates with minimal supervision. The Senior Lead combines hands-on expertise with leadership skills to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all machinery, equipment, and building systems.
In addition to performing advanced troubleshooting and repairs, the Senior Lead is expected to mentor and guide maintenance team members, promote continuous improvement, and ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety standards and regulatory requirements. This position plays a critical role in driving operational uptime, maintaining preventive maintenance programs, and supporting the overall goals of the maintenance department.
Core Competencies:
- Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and supervise a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
- Advanced Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and lead repairs on complex equipment.
- Project Management: Ability to oversee maintenance projects from start to finish, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Preventive Maintenance & Reliability: Strong understanding of preventive maintenance strategies and the ability to implement best practices to maximize equipment uptime.
- Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Advanced troubleshooting skills to quickly identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, or facility-related issues.
- Safety & Compliance: Expert knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, EPA) and the ability to ensure all maintenance activities adhere to safety standards.
- Communication & Documentation: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively document work, create reports, and coordinate with management, vendors, and other departments.
Key Deliverables:
- Lead and supervise a team of maintenance technicians, assigning tasks, ensuring proper execution, and providing guidance as needed.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems and other critical facility equipment.
- Develop, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all mechanical and electrical systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
- Coordinate with management to ensure all maintenance activities align with production or operational schedules and priorities.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of maintenance technicians, providing coaching, feedback, and training as needed.
- Manage inventory for maintenance tools, parts, and supplies, ensuring that the necessary materials are on hand for maintenance activities.
- Assist in the planning and execution of major maintenance projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications.
- Oversee emergency repairs, providing direction and leadership to resolve critical equipment failures quickly.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations during maintenance operations and encourage safe work practices.
- Review and improve existing maintenance procedures, recommending and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Provide regular reports to management on maintenance performance, including equipment downtime, repair costs, and ongoing projects.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification, associate's degree, or bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering is preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Extensive experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other facility systems.
- Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of technicians, focusing on improving performance and ensuring efficient work processes.
- In-depth knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and strategies to ensure equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations (OSHA, EPA) and the ability to enforce safety practices across the team.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to guide maintenance tasks.
- Proficiency in maintenance management software (CMMS) for tracking work orders, generating reports, and managing inventory.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, management, and other departments.
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification in industrial maintenance, HVAC, electrical systems, or other relevant fields (e.g., Certified Maintenance Manager).
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), or other control systems.
- Previous experience in project management, including scheduling, budgeting, and overseeing major maintenance projects.
- Familiarity with energy efficiency programs and the ability to recommend improvements to enhance system performance.
Technology Requirements:
- Proficiency with maintenance management software (CMMS) for tracking work orders, maintenance schedules, and inventory management.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools (e.g., vibration analyzers, thermography equipment, multimeters) for troubleshooting and performance monitoring.
- Basic knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) or programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is a plus.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or at elevated heights.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
