Description
The Transportation Director manages all aspects of the Arkansas Foodbanks’ transportation resources including passenger and distribution vehicles. Maintain professional interactions with colleagues and external customers. The Transportation Director oversees all local drivers, assigns duties, coordinates fleet maintenance, ensures all safety compliance, and manages the pickup and delivery of food and other products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Transportation Director will be comfortable learning new technology, as well as an eagerness to utilize Arkansas Foodbank software systems. They will possess strong interpersonal skills, a spirit of collaboration and teamwork, and a commitment to hunger relief.
- Manage all transportation operations and product deliveries, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Assess and improve transportation systems, including equipment, processes, personnel, and technology.
- Develop and implement metrics to track performance and progress. Oversee transportation safety training initiatives.
- Collaborate with Finance Team regarding insurance coverage and claims.
- Complete high-quality work within established deadlines, independently or with supervision.
- Plan and oversee daily route assignments, ensuring efficiency and preparation for drivers. Monitor route progress throughout the day, making adjustments as needed, and coordinate planning for the following day.
- Respond to calls from drivers and colleagues and handle other route-related inquiries.
- Address and resolve pick-up and delivery issues efficiently. Provide backup coverage for vacant routes and staff absences as needed.
- Ensure efficient transport of inbound and outbound products via Foodbank vehicles.
- Track and oversee drivers' daily activities using electronic monitoring software.
- Maintain transportation equipment, safety, and compliance records.
- Responsible for safe operation of company owned and leased trucks for the delivery and pickup of food while following Arkansas Foodbank guidelines.
- Make sound and immediate decisions at any given time based on traffic and road conditions.
- Coach and develop staff to maximize performance.
- Inform management of identified or suspected mechanical problems and follow through with authorized repairs.
- Report all incidents to Operations Director or Chief Operations Officer.
- Maintain all required certification required by DOT, OSHA, and Arkansas Foodbank's safety program.
- Maintain valid CDL license, current DOT physical card and safe driving record.
- Capable of working in extreme weather conditions, including high heat and freezing temperatures.
- Attend required staff meetings, training, and conferences.
- Complete and submit reports as required.
Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred for the candidate or employee; however, other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Operations Management preferred.
- Three or more years related progressive experience, including two years of supervisory experience.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel, Word, Teams, etc.
- Basic knowledge of fleet routing software.
- Must be certified to operate industrial equipment (forklift, pallet jack, etc) or be able to pass power industrial certification. certification will be administered by the Arkansas Foodbank.
- Must possess a valid commercial driver’s license, Class B required, Class A preferred.
- Valid Arkansas driver's license, proof of insurance and clean driving record required.
- Must pass a background check and preemployment drug screening.

Working Conditions
The job operates in a professional office and a warehouse environment. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to severe. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, hand controls; and talk or hear. Lift stoop, bend. Safely navigate through traffic. Work in various weather conditions. While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to wet or humid conditions; extreme cold or heat; and general outside weather conditions. Ability to regularly lift to 65 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to operate vehicles.
