The City of Torrance is recruiting for a Wastewater Technician to be part of the Public Works Department/ Sanitation Division Team !

The Position
Under direction, a Wastewater Technician reads sewer and storm drain system maps to locate manholes, sewer lines and connections; uses a variety of manual and power driven equipment, devices and tools to clean, repair and replace pumps and valves at sewer lift and storm drain pumping stations; and repairs, replaces or installs new sewer and/or storm drain pipes as appropriate. Duties also include locating breaks in sewer line and storm drain pipes and excavating and shoring trenches.

Collection System Maintenance Certificate (Grade 2)5%Wastewater Technicians who possess and maintain a Collection System Maintenance Grade 2 Certificate shall receive a 5% premium as designated. $3,406.00- $3,943.68
Collection System Maintenance Certificate (Grade 3)7.5%Wastewater Technicians who possess and maintain a Collection System Maintenance Grade 3 Certificate shall receive a 7.5% premium as designated. 
$5,109.00 - $5,915.52
Collection System Maintenance Certificate (Grade 4)10%Wastewater Technicians who possess and maintain a Collection System Maintenance Grade 4 Certificate shall receive a 10% premium as designated (to a maximum of 10% for the Collection System Maintenance Certificate). 
$6,812.00 - $7,887.36

Position Duties

Experience & Education
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
 
A minimum of one (1) year of responsible experience performing inspection, construction, maintenance and servicing of wastewater collection comparable to the work performed by a Maintenance Worker assigned to Wastewater which includes completion of required training and attainment of required proficiency, licenses and certifications.

Licenses and/or Certificates:   
Possess and maintain a valid Class B California Driver's License with appropriate endorsements; and forklift certification prior to the completion of the probationary period.

Performance Test (50%) & Interview Panel (30%): Tentatively scheduled on 10/20/2025
