Salary: $87,000 - $99,000, Based on Experience



Position Summary:

The School Psychologist plays a vital role in supporting the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of students in our district. Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the School Psychologist will provide psychological assessments and consultation services aligned with state and federal special education laws and ethical guidelines as outlined by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).


This job description outlines the core duties and responsibilities for the position. It is not meant to be an exhaustive list of all tasks that may be required in this role. The candidate should be flexible and adaptable in meeting the evolving needs of the District.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assessment & Evaluation

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations for students suspected of having learning, cognitive, developmental, behavioral, or social-emotional issues. The assessments may include psychoeducational, cognitive, psychological, emotional, behavioral, and other assessments.

  • Meet timelines for submitting evaluation reports.

  • Participate in eligibility determination for Special Education and 504 Plans.

  • Update Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with key evaluation findings.

  • Interpret and report assessment data; develop recommendations based on findings.

Consultation & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with educators, families, administrators, and outside providers when appropriate.

  • Serve as a member of the special education team and participate in IEP meetings and other relevant planning activities.

  • Provide consultation and data-driven recommendations on instructional strategies and classroom supports.


Other duties may include providing individual and group counseling/social skills/emotional regulation supports; assisting in crisis intervention and post-crisis follow-up; facilitating training sessions for teachers, counselors, and administrators on topics such as behavior management and social emotional learning; participating in school- and district-wide initiatives, task forces, and planning teams; supporting the implementation and evaluation of school-wide mental and behavioral health services.


Qualifications:

Required Licensure & Certification:

  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) License as a School Psychologist (all levels or appropriate grade span).

  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement or willingness to obtain within one year of hire.

  • National Certification as a School Psychologist (NCSP) preferred, but not required.

Education & Experience:

  • Completion of a DESE-approved school psychology graduate program (specialist-level or higher).

  • Demonstrated experience conducting psychoeducational evaluations and writing comprehensive reports.

  • Experience in a K–7 or elementary/middle school setting strongly preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of special education law (IDEA and Massachusetts regulations).

  • Expertise in research-based assessment, consultation, and intervention practices.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.

  • Keep abreast of the latest research, technologies, and legal regulations relevant to school psychology.


Additional Requirements:

  • Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts state regulations.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Must be able to lift, move, or assist students when necessary.

  • Completion of any required professional development or certifications as mandated by the District.


Work Environment:

  • This position operates in a school and office setting.

  • Some travel between schools may be required.

  • Occasional evening and weekend events for parent meetings, college nights, or professional development may be necessary.
