Social Worker at Northside Charter High School

Northside Charter High School (grades 9-12) provides an educational program that results in mastery of the New York State Learning Standards, high school graduation, and acceptance to colleges and universities of choice by all students.

About the role: Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Social Worker provides individual and group psychotherapeutic counseling and case management to support social-emotional, developmental, and academic progress and evaluates the scope of student therapeutic need for clinical referrals. The Social worker provides crisis intervention support, including collaboration with the Counseling team and Restorative Justice educators.

• Be an active participant and leader in our community including leading professional development, receiving and providing ongoing coaching and development around college and career readiness.  

• Collaborate closely with the counseling and restorative justice teams to support students in attaining annual academic, social-emotional and college and career goal performance goals.  

• Collaborate with the Director of Student Services and Director of Special Services to identify and resolve student needs and challenges.

• Provide direct service therapeutic interventions to students with or without  IEPs.

• Make oral presentations of assessments, diagnostics, and observations, in accordance with all confidentiality laws and regulations

• Provide mandated counseling for students with Individualized Education Plans Prepare all treatment plans, case notes, and all other necessary documentation pertaining to clinical supports 

• You are able to drive and participate in meaningful data meetings and deep dives in line with schoolwide goals and priorities.

• Collect and analyze data to strategize, prioritize, and discover trends across student and alumni caseloads.

• Provide mandated individual and small-group counseling services to students.

• Advocate for students at IEP meetings, and in Student Support Team and Restorative Justice processes.

• Promote positive culture and teamwork and proactively lead inter-departmental collaborative efforts. 

• Consult with teachers to implement school counseling curriculum lessons based on college and career readiness, academic and SEL needs identified through data.

• Provide counseling to students and parents (absences and restorative processes)

• Collaborate with parents, teachers and staff and external agencies and partners

• Work closely with parents and guardians of all students on caseload, including evening workshops and meetings for families

• Plan and lead workshops for parents on key topics (financial aid planning, different types of institutions, scholarships, etc. ) related to the college admissions process and career options. 

QUALIFICATIONS:    

• LMSW at time of application or MSW with licensure on or before September 1, 2020

• NY state/city experience is strongly preferred. 

• Three years of clinical experience in a mental health or school setting preferred 

• Ability to engage and diffuse crisis situations 

• Experience with time limited treatment approaches preferred 

• An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high stress environment and a capacity to remain calm, focused, and solution oriented when faced with unexpected challenges 

• Fundamental belief that all students can meet rigorous cultural and academic expectations.

• Ability to work effectively with adolescents, families, professionals and other personnel from a wide range of cultural, social and economic backgrounds.
