Primary Purpose:
Provide Emergent Bilingual students in Bilingual and Dual Language Immersion programs with supplemental instructional services that are differentiated and appropriate for their learning needs and incorporate instructional activities that provide the necessary skills to facilitate acquisition of core curriculum content for academic and linguistic growth. Prepare lessons and other instructional materials to students’ ability levels and learning needs that also align with the Language of Instruction (LOI) for the core content area as per Waco ISD’s Development of Biliteracy Plan. Work in a pull-out/small group in-classroom configuration for addressing supplemental instructional services to close learning gaps, so students will successfully interact with grade level material in the regular classroom.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Bilingual Education Certification preferred
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area(s) assigned
High level of Bilingualism and Biliteracy in Spanish
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of the academic needs of Emergent Bilingual students in assigned area
Knowledge of the Accelerated Instruction Plan goal setting process and implementation
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
In addition to speaking, must also read and write fluently in Spanish
Knowledge of best instructional practices to instruct Emergent Bilingual students
Knowledge of the stages of second language acquisition
Knowledge of Spanish literacy instruction
Experience
Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience preferred. Bilingual classroom instruction experience preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Collaborate with foundation teachers to develop instructional design for each student assigned.
2. Implement an instructional, skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required.
3. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
4. Participate in Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings on a regular basis.
5. Use technology in teaching/learning process.
6. Conduct ongoing formative assessments of student achievement.
7. Create a work environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, linguistic, and emotional development of each student.
8. Consult with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to student behavior plans.
9. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
10. Establish and maintain open communication by participating in conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
11. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
12. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
13. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
14. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for Supplemental Instruction Teachers.
15. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
16. Attend and participate in department meetings and serve on committees as appropriate.
17. Serve as a positive role model for students; support the mission of school district.
18. Maintain a daily log and weekly schedule to reflect the prior week and submit log and schedule to the English Learners Department.
19. Maintain supplemental instruction information for assigned students (e.g. type of supplemental instruction, intervention, commencement, duration, baseline, progress, formative assessment)
19. Maintain confidentiality in regards to Emergent Bilingual student information.
20. Work closely with the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) in an effort to make informed educational and linguistic decisions for Emergent Bilingual students.
21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Travel within district elementary schools to provide supplemental instruction to assigned students. Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
