Reporting to the Manager, Members Services with the Office of Legislative Assembly, the Members Services Officer (MSO) provides administration, accounting and support services for Members of the Legislative Assembly and the Office of the Clerk both in the English and in the Inuktitut language. This includes the co-ordination of travel services, communications support for MLAs and staff, purchasing for Members and staff, support to the Pages program, oversight of receptionist services on floor 1 of the Assembly building and general support to all Members and staff.

 

Responsibilities

The MSO is responsible for maintaining various administrative and accounting systems and processes as well as developing solutions in a timely manner. These tasks range from furnishing and equipping a constituency office outside of Iqaluit for an MLA, as well as ordering pages uniforms, which appropriately represent Nunavut symbols. The position is also responsible for analyzing problems and developing timely solutions within financial and contracting authorities. The MSO is responsible for coordinating travel services for the Regular MLAs, travel for cabinet Ministers on constituency business and communicating travel information to Members both in English and in Inuktitut. Overtime is to be expected during sittings of the Legislative Assembly. The MSO must be comfortable working with senior Assembly officers, senior government officers, politicians, travel agency personnel and all government and industry service providers.

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma or equivalent along with (2) two years of relevant clerk experience. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in Inuktut is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
