Patient Access Specialist is responsible for balancing a variety of duties in a fast-paced environment. They are responsible for greeting and assisting patients by providing exceptional customer service in person and on the phone.
Position Responsibilities:
- Meets with patient and/or patient's caregiver to exchange necessary information and documentation. Provides explanation of visit, instructions, and addresses concerns and questions.
- Communicates with referring provider's office, clinical department(s), and/or other appropriate personnel to exchange necessary information and determine schedule.
- Verifies insurance benefits and obtains pre-certification/authorization as necessary.
- Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
- Schedules, changes, cancels and confirms patient appointments. Reminds patients of appointments if not using the Auto Reminder in Athena.
- Scans, organizes and uploads all paper documents into an electronic health records.
- Fiduciary Responsibility. The Contact Center Staff is a fiduciary of the organization, and is obligated to act in the best interest and for the benefit of the organization at all times.
