A Tool & Die Manager at D&H Industries is responsible for tool manufacturing, maintenance, development and testing activities to ensure the business objectives are met, to maximize productivity and maintain the highest levels of workmanship for all tooling activities. Lead and co-ordinate resources within the tool room to ensure all tooling are produced efficiently, on time and in line with quality standards ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to. Manage and mentor the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures. This is a salaried position.

 
 

THE WHAT

What will you be doing?

 

1. Manages new tool builds including coordinating with tool designers, fabrication, assembly and testing. Manufactures new tools from technical drawings to a high level of workmanship and in an efficient, cost effective manner.

2. Coordinates tool maintenance activities including maintenance, repair, and improvements to meet the demands of the production schedule. Develops or revises maintenance standards operational and working practices and develop workers to ensure compliance to standards. 

3. Provides specialist technical advice and support on all aspects of tool design, manufacturing and estimating.

4. Oversees all work through the tool room efficiently and cost effectively and ensure that all target dates for tooling are met.

5. Provides quotations for new tooling, modifications and repairs. Tracks and monitors job costs to meet profit targets.

6. Works as part of the management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements delivery in line with company and customer requirements

7. Evaluates work requests and estimated job times and coordinate all personnel and equipment schedules to optimize resources to meet new tool build and tool repair due dates.

8. Develops, documents, executes and sustains standardized best practices, systems and rules to streamline processes for elimination of wasteful practices of all tool room activity.

9. Orders necessary supplies for both repair and new tooling construction.

10. Develop and manage apprenticeship program.

11. Performs full range of managerial responsibilities which may include but not be limited to: interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing employees; planning, training, discipline, assigning and directing work; performance management; department budget.

Requirements

Education & Experience: Tool & Die Journeyman’s card required. 5 or more years of supervisory experience in tooling in a metal stamping facility preferred.  

Skills and competencies: Journeyman Tool & Die Maker. Management experience. Supervision and coaching skills. Excellent problem solving skills. Organizational and planning skills. Computer competency (word processing, e-mail, and spreadsheets). Strong mechanical and math aptitude.
