SUMMARY
As an active member of the interprofessional health care team, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing assessments and delivering treatment programs and education for patients and their family.
JOB DUTIES ANO RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluates and assesses clinical findings in order to identify patient's functional strengths and weaknesses
- Plans and implements programs of occupational therapy including but not limited to, assessing the patient's ability to adapt to change, capabilities and expectations related to life activities through observation, interviews and formal assessments and/or modifying treatment modalities
- Develops intervention programs to address patient's needs related to self-care, work and leisure activities
- Communicates with physician and the lnterprofessional Health Care Team regarding patient problems, needs and progress
- Maintains clinical records and confers with other health care professionals
- Provides consulting or education services for the patient and their family
- Assigns occupational therapy-related activities, as appropriate, to the Occupational Therapy Assistant
- Supervises the activities of the Occupational Therapy Assistant/ Physiotherapist assistant
- Mentors the Occupational Therapy Assistant in their clinical practice as required
- Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plans and modifies them accordingly
- Contributes to the development of a realistic discharge plan
- Develops and implements health promotion programs for patients
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of an Accredited College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Completion of a university, college or other approved registered occupational therapist program is required
- Membership in C.A.O.T and O.S.O.T. preferred
- Additional academic training or experience is required to practice in a specific clinical area
- Current CPR certification
- Sound knowledge of community resources is an asset
- Prior experience working as an Occupational Therapist in a Health Care Facility is an asset
- Relevant experience in managing acute patients in a variety of programs: orthopaedic, neurological, medical, surgical and/or rehab adult populations
- Experience in the development of best practice intervention/therapy is an asset
- Good understanding of and experience with working with an OTA role required
- Experience using MEDITECH, SCM, ChartMaxx, MS Office
- Motivates and educates others

- Ability to meet the physical demand of the position is required; performing substantial walking, standing, lifting, twisting and bending as required for patient care and other responsibilities
