SUMMARY

Hollow Grind is responsible for using CNC controlled grinding machines to obtain the correct geometric profile into blank stock, ensuring all grinds are within specification. The operator will set up hollow grind machines and inspect parts for thickness, flatness and taper. Where necessary, the operator must trouble shoot and make machine adjustments to nonconforming parts, ensuring visual and geometric compliance. Production will be recorded accurately within InvTrack and inspection reports will be completed to ensure adherence to QA requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate CNC grinding machines.
  • Troubleshoot issues during set up and when tolerances are not being met during production runs, making proper program and tooling adjustments where necessary.
  • Using hand tools to make mechanical adjustments where necessary.
  • Accurately fill out QA inspection sheets.
  • Ensure all completed parts meet visual inspection criteria per Buck Knives QA standards.
  • Using micrometers and calipers, ensure all grinds are within blueprint specification so subsequent operations will not be impacted.
  • Accurately logging time, status and tray count in InvTrack
  • Verification of complete and accurate paperwork prior to beginning work.
  • Inform FSS/Lead/Supervisor of any and all quality deviations, mechanical issues, engineering support needed and process nonconformities found.
  • Ensure blade/grind quality while moving at a steady pace as not to impede downstream processes.
  • Area cleanliness and operator preventative maintenance requirements are kept updated by each shift.
  • Adherence to processes in accordance with the Standard Work Instructions.
  • Comply with all standard safety practices, company rules and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to read and understand G-code.
  • High mechanical/mathematical aptitude.
  • Must have the ability to discern where help is needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Must possess a sense of urgency, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to remain standing for the duration of the shift.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • GED/High School Diploma or related experience and training.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Machine operation or equivalent experience (3 years)
  • CNC operation (1-2 years)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel parts; reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds for the duration of the shift.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Hearing and eye protection is required while working on the production floor. The work environment may include office areas, manufacturing areas and warehouse/shipping areas.
