Position Summary |
The incumbent provides custodial services to ensure a clean, safe environment. Incumbent utilizes cleaning equipment and supplies to carry out essential functions.
Essential Functions |
- Dusts, mops, vacuums, polishes, washes or uses other cleaning procedures to clean all assigned areas. Cleans windows as required.
- Strips, scrubs, waxes, refinishes, sands, polishes floors using buffing machine. Shampoos carpeted floors as assigned.
- Monitors landings, walkways, and patios and provides assistance in grounds care.
- Collects, transports and disposes refuse. Empties refuse containers and relines with disposable bags.
- Replaces disposables such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper. Stocks supply closet when necessary.
- Unloads freight deliveries.
- Sets up rooms for college functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications |
Education: High School diploma/equivalent
Experience: This is an entry-level position. 1or more yrs of commercial cleaning experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Ability to read, write, comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to follow OSHA guidelines.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately for measuring chemicals and other cleaning supplies.
- Ability to organize tasks and maintain control of workflow.
- Ability to deal with others with courtesy and tact using good verbal communication skills and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Physical and Environmental Demands |
Physical Demands | Frequent standing and walking, lifting, climbing, pushing and pulling. Occasional lifting up to 70 pounds. |
Audible Demands | Use of phone, verbal communication with staff, faculty, students, patients and the general public. |
Visual Demands | Computer use, operation of phone system, reading. |
Environmental Conditions | Work is conducted both indoors and outside with exposure to elements and temperature fluctuations. |
Hazards | Moderate risk of injury or work-related illnesses. |

Additional Responsibilities/Considerations |
- Employee may operate the following equipment/machinery: vacuum cleaner, buffer, scrubber, and automatic floor care machines.
- Employee may be assigned to work in any SCO facility.
- Employee may be required to work nights and/or weekends based on College activities; availability for on-call service is required.
- Employee may be required to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Employee may be required to hold a valid driver’s license in the state of residency and to be insured or insurable to operate college motor vehicles.
- Employee will wear company-issued uniforms during work hours.
SHIFT FOR THIS POSITION IS 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.
