SUMMARY

Responsible for directing the care of consumers who are experiencing addictive disorders related to drug use. The Prevention Specialist will have frequent interaction with persons who are recovering from substance abuse. Through new services, reduce the impact of trauma and prevent SUD and other problem behaviors among youth.

 

JOB DUTIES

  • Responsible for timely implementation of prevention services following evidence-based practices.
  • Conducts community-based prevention strategies and training.
  • Continuously updates skills through training targeted in Staff Development Plan.
  • Promotes and conducts suicide and substance misuse prevention/education.
  • Promotes education on reducing the impact of trauma.
  • Assists in the detection of at-risk patients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.
  • Assists in planning and organizing training opportunities.
  • Assists in preventing relapse or other conditions that tend to recur over time.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and quality improvement activities as required.
  • Furthers the mission of the organization through active support of the strategic goals and deliverables of the program.
  • Schedule and advertise program activities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY

  • Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health; and appropriate skills in working with consumers with Mental Health/Substance Use disorders.
  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures
  • Skill in working successfully with the Alaska Native/American Indian population and experience providing culturally specific programming; understanding of and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles
  • Skill in managing multiple, concurrent priorities and meeting deadlines
  • Skill in computer usage
  • Skill in organizational structures
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, agencies, and consumers
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
  • Ability to write professionally and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to apply customer service concepts and practices

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree or related 4 years’ experience. 
  • One (1) year of experience in Behavioral Health.
  • One (1) year of experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian population and experience providing culturally specific services
  • Two (2) years of experience working in prevention.
  • Two (2) years of experience serving youth and young adults. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Master’s degree.
