About Us:
The City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department is split into two distinct areas:
  • The Parks Division manages and maintains all public parks, open spaces, trails, storm water retention basins, landscaping at municipal facilities and Thunderbird Conservation Park. The Division is also responsible for monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of park and facility use.
  • The Recreation Division offers opportunities to enhance the social, physical, mental and economic health of our community through a variety of diverse recreation programs and facilities. Recreation programs and events are held at the Foothills Recreation and Aquatics Center, the Glendale Adult Center, Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the five community centers and at basketball, tennis, skate courts and other recreation facilities throughout the city.

Our Recreation Division offers a wide variety of programs, including youth and adult sports, fitness classes, art workshops, special interest activities, science programs, and more. We are currently seeking enthusiastic, friendly individuals who enjoy working in a vibrant community recreation center environment.

This position is primarily based at the front desk and lobby of the Foothills Recreation and Aquatic Center, providing excellent customer service and carrying out the directions of the manager on duty.

Salary:
Position Overview:
This part-time position requires availability to work any day of the week, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Hours: Up to 19 hours per week, scheduled as needed
  • Hourly rate: $15.00
  • FLSA status: Non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week)
  • Work locations: Foothills Recreation and Aquatic Center
  • Sick Time: Accrues at .034 hours per-hour-paid

Position Duties

  1. Greet Patrons and provide excellent customer service while monitoring member scan in process and monitoring the lobby.
  2. Learn and gain proficiency of CivicRec software. The CivicRec is the reservations and transaction tool. This includes processing memberships for patrons, beer permits, pool admission payments, and cashier duties.
  3. Register patrons for special interest classes (SIC), aquatics programs including lifeguarding classes, and recreation programs throughout the city.
  4. Answer phones and questions regarding facility and programming.
  5. Enforce facility rules and regulations.
  6. Guide rental visitors to the correct rental location within the facility.
  7. Follow safety and security procedures, including a detailed incident or accident report as needed.
  8. Communicate effectively, including written, with peers, manager on duty and other supervising staff. 
  9. Adhere to dress code and uniform policy.
  10.  Provide foot traffic control and bag checking for busy summer season and/or special events
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to:

  • Learn and follow Parks and Recreation policies/procedures and regulations.
  • Learn and follow cashier processes. This includes processing  payments for memberships, beer permits, and pool admission etc.
  • Learn and gain proficiency of CivicRec software. CivicRec is the reservations and transaction tool used by the facility. 
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, in-person, verbally and in writing.
  • Handle conflict and seek assistance for escalations as needed.
  • Be punctual and responsible for completing work shifts as scheduled.
  • Comfortably work independently or as part of a team.

Special Requirements:

  • Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
