Position Duties
The listed tasks are essential for this position and may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performing general janitorial tasks and other duties required to keep buildings and other City facilities clean and orderly, such as sweeping, mopping, washing walls, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, setting up tables and chairs and replenishing supplies
- Performing manual labor and unskilled to semi-skilled work to assist with the construction and/or repair of City curbs, gutters, sidewalks and other concrete structures, such as breaking and patching asphalt, repairing broken sections of sidewalks and digging trenches
- Performing routine assignments to assist in the maintenance, replacement and basic repair of City facilities, parks, medians, trees, landscaping, and irrigation systems, such as pulling weeds, trimming plants and shrubs, mowing lawns, picking up litter from around buildings and grounds, emptying trash cans and replacing liners
- Providing initiative in achieving positive and timely results for the organization
- Delivering outstanding internal and external customer service while solving problems and proactively creating sustainable solutions to issues
- Supporting the City’s mission, goals, policies and objectives
- Supporting the City’s corporate values of: openness and honesty; integrity and ethics; accountability; outstanding customer service; teamwork; excellence; fiscal and environmental responsibility
- Conducting duties, responsibilities, tasks and assignments with a constructive, cooperative, positive professional attitude and demeanor
- Driving City vehicles and operating various types of equipment in a safe and secure manner
- Implementing directions from superiors provided orally and in writing
- Reporting orally and in writing to supervisor regarding safety and health concerns encountered while performing work duties
- Maintaining records of repair work
- Performing other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures and/or practices necessary to perform required maintenance duties and applicable work safety standards, regulations and requirements.
Ability to read, speak, write and understand the English language; work scheduled shifts including weekends, holidays and overtime; learn and adhere to applicable terms and conditions of employment including but not limited to City rules and regulations, policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Graduation from high school or equivalent and experience performing construction, landscape work, facility maintenance and repair, or janitorial functions.
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver License is required.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Abilities: Tasks involve lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects that are 50 pounds or more; standing for extended periods of time; regular reaching, climbing, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and distinguish colors or shades of colors and sounds, and provide oral communication.
Environmental Factors: Some tasks may risk exposure to noise, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, hazardous materials, wetness, humidity, mold, rain, fumes, and traffic hazards.

SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process may include but is not limited to: Application review and evaluation, written examination, performance test and interview. All employment offers made by the City are contingent upon establishing proof of a prospective candidate's legal authorization to work in the United States and successfully passing all components of the pre-employment process. The pre-employment process may include but not be limited to: Reference checks, background investigation, fingerprint-based criminal history check, credit check, degree verification, and post-offer medical examination and drug test. For public safety positions, including positions based in the Police and/or Fire Department(s), the pre-employment process may also include but not be limited to a P.O.S.T. compliant background check, polygraph examination, post-offer medical examination and drug test, and post-offer psychological examination.
