Viterbo University invites applications for a full-time Business Systems Programmer/Analyst position. The Programmer/Analyst position reports to the Director of Instructional and Information Technology. The Business Systems Programmer/Analyst will work within the Administrative Systems team to develop and support systems, processes and structures related to the management of institutional data & digital resources for the operational effectiveness of administrative offices. This can include but is not limited to assisting with the management, maintenance, and improvement of systems related to University's administrative software/hardware systems (Ellucian Colleague & Self-Service, Soft Docs Etrieve, MS Reporting Services(SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services(SSIS), Tableau Dashboarding, RS2 door card system), data integration between disparate systems, assisting business units in the use of technology tools to gain operational efficiency and overall transparency of data for Institutional use. This is a full-time, on- campus, year-round position eligible for employee benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform programming, database report writing and software support tasks on the University's ERP system, which includes Colleague UI, Ellucian Self-Service, Microsoft Reporting services and Colleague API.
  • Export/Import and process data sets from the Colleague system using SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Integration Services, MS-Excel, MS-Access and SQL Management Studio tools for use in other systems/databases.
  • Serve as a primary support resource & coordinate the integration of data between the Ellucian Colleague system and other auxiliary systems, including but not limited to Raisers Edge, RS2, CSI, Transferology, Moodle, EMS, etc.
  • Assist end-users with the creation of custom reports using SQL Server Reporting Services, MS-Access, MS-Excel, Tableau Dashboards or other reporting tools. This includes meeting with users to define and translate their requirements into desired report formats.
  • Prepare any necessary documentation within programs or as part of a user manual. The documentation should clarify the intent of the procedure or help in using that procedure.
  • Assist assigned administrative offices with other PC-based software that is used to complete administrative tasks regardless of whether it directly interfaces with the Colleague system.
  • Monitor database integrity, complete security maintenance and file maintenance. Make recommendations for improvements whenever concerns are found, or performance can be enhanced.
  • Serve as a designated contact with Ellucian to troubleshoot and resolve issues with the Colleague software.
  • Maintain knowledge of supported products and applications via list serves, conferences, user groups and training.
  • Able to work off-hours to troubleshoot, install new systems and software upgrades.
  • Self directed; Team player; With the capacity to manage multiple projects while communicating progress and work to end users, team, or supervisor.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of IIT as the role evolves over time to meet the department's changing needs.

General Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT related programs is required.
  • Knowledge of relational database software, programming and query languages is required. Demonstrable experience in troubleshooting software and systems integrations is required.
  • Three to five years of professional experience in an equivalent position a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL server, SSIS, SSRS preferred.
  • Higher Education Student Information Systems support a plus.
  • Excellent Customer Service, written and verbal skills are essential.
  • This position will be on-site in La Crosse, WI with an opportunity for up to 16 hours of remote week per week.
  • Experience programming in jQuery, Java Script, HTML is a plus. Content Management System experience a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. Viterbo University is unable to sponsor or take over the sponsorship of the employment Visa.
