Physics DSC Members (positions below)

  • The Physics DSC serves as a bridge between students, faculty, and the broader physics community at Queen's University. Its primary goal is to enhance the academic, social, and professional experience of physics students by organizing events, advocating for student needs, promoting inclusivity, and providing opportunities for academic growth. The council is dedicated to fostering a supportive and collaborative environment where students can connect, engage in meaningful discussions, and access valuable resources to help them succeed in their studies and future careers.

Applications will close on September 22nd at 4PM. 

Time Commitment

8 month-term from September 2025 to April 30th, 2026 with a time commitment of 1-4 hours/week.

Role and Responsibilities:

Events Coordinator (1)

  • Plans, organizes, and executes departmental events such as socials, workshops, and guest lectures.
  • Collaborates with other DSC members to ensure events align with student interests and departmental goals.
  • Manages event logistics, including venue booking, scheduling, and obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Ensures proper promotion and engagement by working with marketing and communications teams.
  • Seeks feedback post-events to improve future activities.

Marketing Coordinator (2)

  • Develops and implements promotional strategies for DSC events, merchandise, and departmental initiatives.
  • Manages the department’s social media accounts, ensuring regular updates and engaging content.
  • Designs marketing materials, including posters, digital banners, and newsletters.
  • Coordinates with the Events Coordinator to promote upcoming events.
  • Analyzes outreach efforts to ensure maximum student participation.

Merchandise Coordinator (1)

  • Oversees the creation and sale of departmental merchandise, such as clothing or accessories.
  • Works with external vendors to ensure high-quality products are produced within budget.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing Coordinator to promote merchandise sales.
  • Manages inventory and tracks sales, ensuring adequate supply and timely delivery of orders.
  • Coordinates student feedback on designs and products to meet demand.

Academic/Faculty Liaison (1)

  • Acts as the primary point of contact between students and faculty members.
  • Communicates student academic concerns and feedback to faculty and relays departmental updates back to students.
  • Helps organize academic events such as workshops, review sessions, and faculty-student networking opportunities.
  • Works with the DSC to address any academic-related concerns or opportunities for collaboration with faculty.
  • Represents the student body in departmental academic meetings.

Mental Health Coordinator (1)

  • Stays informed about mental health resources available at Queen’s University.
  • Acts as a supportive and approachable contact for students seeking guidance or connection to resources.

EDIIF Representatives (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigeneity, and Fem Phys) (2)

  • Advocates for equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives within the department and DSC.
  • Works with the DSC to ensure all events and initiatives are accessible and inclusive to all students.
  • Collaborates with the Fem Phys team to promote gender equity in physics.
  • Helps to organize and promote events that raise awareness about EDI issues in academia and physics.
  • Acts as a representative for marginalized communities and brings forward concerns to the DSC and faculty.
