That’s why our Recreation Specialist – Fitness Zone is such an important role in our Parks & Recreation department. This position provides a fun, safe, and engaging atmosphere for participants in our drop-in Fitness Zone at the new Redmond Senior and Community Center. This is a fantastic, part-time position for someone who has worked in a fitness center, personal trained clients, and/or taught group exercise classes. You will be successful in this role if you are enthusiastic about health and fitness and love to empower people of all ages and ability levels to achieve their goals.
Locations: Redmond Senior and Community Center
Assignment Duration: Ongoing; programs are offered seasonally.
Hours/Schedule: We are currently looking to fill the Recreation Specialist – Fitness Zone position for the following shifts: Sat 2pm-8pm, and occasional subbing opportunities Mon-Fri 5pm-9pm. The position is limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week on average and no more than 1,040 hours per year.
Position Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide oversight and supervision of participants in our drop-in Fitness Zone
Greet and welcome participants with warmth and professionalism
Deliver basic guidance on proper equipment usage and demonstrate correct techniques to ensure participant safety and effectiveness
Assist participants in setting up equipment and adjusting settings according to their preferences
Monitor participant’s’ exercise activities, offering light guidance and encouragement, as appropriate
Educate guests on Fitness Zone rules, safety protocols, and proper gym etiquette
Maintain a safe environment by being alert to potential hazards and addressing any unsafe behaviors promptly
Promote fitness services, personal training sessions, and other recreation activities to participants who express interest, aiming to enhance their experience
Ensure all Fitness Zone equipment is clean, safe, and stored properly
Attend staff meetings and training programs as required
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
General knowledge of a variety of recreational activities and/or sports
Successful passing of a required background check
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
One to two years of applicable experience
Minimum age 16
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid WA State Driver's license required. Accommodations for lack of driver's license may be considered depending on the assignment or circumstances.
Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR within two months of hire
