Our fully integrated suite of payroll tax APIs and software tools allows companies to solve tax compliance issues and build applications across the entirety of the payroll process.
About the Role:
As a Technical Writer at Symmetry, you will own how we deliver and communicate software changes to our clients. You’ll bring clarity to complexity while championing innovation, automation, and the use of AI-first platforms to scale the impact of every product release, update, and process improvement.
You will play a critical role in enriching our AI-powered self-service systems, ensuring they are equipped with timely, accurate, and actionable content. You’ll work with urgency and intention, delivering intelligent documentation that evolves with the pace of our software and the needs of our clients.
At Symmetry, writing about software won’t be the end of the road; You’ll redefine how software changes are communicated, automated, and consumed, activating a modern approach to documentation that accelerates our clients’ success.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
Content Creation & Communication
Develop clear, accurate, and engaging documentation for product releases and technical updates, as well as API specifications and product guides, Swagger documentation, release notes, reference articles, FAQs, client-facing communications, and more. Write and structure content tailored to various audiences that encompass developers, support analysts, payroll professionals, and end users.
- Partner with the product marketing team to ensure clients receive timely, accurate, and easy-to-understand information about new features and changes. Craft and manage product update communications via tools like HubSpot, ensuring clients receive timely, accurate, and easy-to-understand messages about new features and changes.
Maintain a consistent voice and tone aligned with Symmetry’s brand and communication standards across all formats.
Automation & AI Enablement
Organize and use consistent formatting and smart tagging practices in a way that helps to make content easily discoverable and usable by AI assistants and search systems.
Proactively enrich AI knowledge bases to ensure up-to-date, accessible answers are available to both clients and internal teams.
Identify opportunities to automate documentation workflows, from generation to distribution, reducing cycle times and manual effort.
Project Ownership & Cross-Team Collaboration
Own enablement & documentation projects end-to-end, delivering high-quality content on schedule with first-time-right accuracy.
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Support, and Tax Research teams to proactively gather and verify source content.
Work with urgency, driving accountability in meeting deadlines and supporting fast-paced product delivery cycles.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
Explore and pilot new content delivery formats, tooling, and documentation strategies to improve usability and reach.
Regularly analyze content performance, gather feedback, and iterate to enhance clarity, discoverability, and value.
Champion documentation as a strategic lever for client satisfaction, operational efficiency, and product adoption and usage.
Monitor documentation performance metrics and recommend and implement improvements that drive measurable outcomes (e.g., reduced ticket volume, faster implementations, adoption, product usage).
What Success Looks Like
- Key documentation projects are completed thoroughly, with high quality and on time, with minimal revision and strong stakeholder alignment.
- Clients and employees consistently find accurate, timely answers through self-service channels.
- Documentation drives measurable improvements in support case avoidance, decreasing client onboarding speed to implementation, and release comprehension.
- Automation and AI are embedded in documentation workflows, enabling smarter, faster delivery at scale.
- Internal teams rely on and advocate for documentation as a core component of product and client experience strategy.
Here’s what we're looking for:
Experience
- 2+ years of experience in a Technical Writer or similar role, ideally in a SaaS, compliance, or enterprise software setting.
- Proven ability to create content that bridges technical accuracy with business usability.
- Hands-on Experience working with documentation platforms (e.g., Confluence, Zendesk, ReadMe, Swagger/OpenAPI), collaboration tools (e.g., JIRA, Slack, Google Suite), and source control (e.g., GitHub).
- Hands-on experience documenting and working with APIs and SDKs is required, along with a working knowledge of programming or scripting languages (e.g., C#, XML, JSON, JavaScript). Familiarity with programming or scripting languages (e.g., C#, XML, JSON, JavaScript) is a plus.

- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple deliverables in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Curious, quick learner who thrives in ambiguity and takes ownership of outcomes.
- Understands how design choices, like diagrams, spacing, or formatting, can make documentation more user-friendly and impactful.
- Passionate about leveraging technology, automation, and AI to improve content delivery and user engagement.
Education
