LOCATION:
WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT, WATER RECLAMATION PLANTS SECTION, DESERT MAINTENANCE GROUP, PALMDALE WATER RECLAMATION PLANT, PALMDALE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To operate a variety of trucks, tractors and tractor-trailer combinations on public highways; and to operate off-road utility, construction equipment and bio-solids process machinery at a wastewater treatment plant.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of a Supervisor of Treatment Plant Maintenance, the incumbent drives a variety of trucks with or without trailers to haul grit and bio-solids to and from wastewater treatment plants, and/or drying beds; operates, front-end loaders, graders, skip loaders, , bio-solids composters and/or other similar machinery and various tractor-drawn attachments; drives a vacuum truck hauling water for flushing sewer lines operates water trucks for controlling dust; loads and unloads trucks requiring either manual labor or the operation of mechanical equipment; keeps records and prepares routine reports; inspects, services, and maintains equipment and reporting defects fuels trucks and equipment; performs general and grounds maintenance work when not operating equipment; and performs related duties as required.

Position Duties

Candidates must possess a California Commercial Class A license or permit -ANDOne year of experience operating a variety of diesel equipment, such as tractor-trailers and skip loaders or equivalent.

NOTE:  Possession of a California Tanker Endorsement (N) or the ability to obtain it within six months of appointment is required.

Minimum Qualifications

The competitive selection process may cover a knowledge ofThe functions, operating methods, and maintenance requirements for a variety of trucks, tractors, and construction equipment; safe work practices of the trade; pertinent provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code governing the operation of equipment on public streets.  The ability to:  Operate a wide variety of equipment; follow written and oral instructions; perform heavy manual labor.

SELECTION PROCESS:

  • All applications will be reviewed to determine if the conditions and qualifications for testing are met.  
  • The selection process will consist of a written test weighted at 50% and/or an interview weighted at 50%. 
  • Candidates must receive a qualifying score on each selection component to move forward in the selection process.
