Position Overview:

The Chef/Culinary Arts Instructor plays a central role in preparing youth for workforce success through hands-on culinary training, classroom instruction, and café/catering operations. This position combines the responsibilities of a chef, educator, and mentor, teaching culinary skills, modeling professionalism, and supporting youth in building confidence and transferable job readiness skills.

The instructor manages the Hawks Nest Café at the Lanza Center, which includes catering programs for special events, and delivers ServSafe training and certification. In addition, the role incorporates elements of sous chef leadership, including mentoring students in high-volume food preparation, maintaining Department of Health standards, and managing kitchen operations.

This position emphasizes youth voice, leadership, and professional development, ensuring students gain both technical culinary expertise and the workplace behaviors necessary for long-term success.

Position Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED required; Culinary Diploma/Certification or formal culinary education required. ServSafe Certification required. Minimum 2 years of culinary/food service experience; experience teaching or mentoring youth strongly preferred. Catering and high-volume food service experience preferred. Strong communication, mentoring, and team leadership skills. Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred. Experience facilitating workshops or training groups. Valid driver’s license required.
