Additional Information: Show/Hide Sanford High School is seeking a Varsity Indoor Track Coach. As the head coach you will deliver measurable results in developing, enhancing and promoting an athletic program that will be distinguished by the team’s display of integrity, citizenship, character, work ethic, and their ability to overcome adversity. Instruct students in appropriate methods to be respectful of themselves, their opponents, and officials regardless of the outcome of their event. Must have knowledge and expertise in the strategies, methods and techniques of INDOOR TRACK and provide instruction thru practices and meets. Should have the ability to manage all aspects of INDOOR TRACK and have earned or will earn credentials of Maine Coaches to include CPR/First Aid and Current Maine CHRC (fingerprinting).
Responsibilities: Student Centered • Supervise the student athletes during practices and meets. • Through proper preparation and planning, students are appropriately ready for competition. • Supervise/manage off season programs to help players enhance their abilities. • Serve as a role model for students. • Instruct the players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. • Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises. • Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competition and practice. • Determine game/competition strategy. • Supervise athletes during practices and competition. • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. • Model sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. • Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students. • Submit a list of award winners at the end of the season to the athletic office. Order trophies or other award items for sports recognition night based on guidelines provided by the athletic office. • Participate in special activities to include parent’s night, award nights. • Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records as required by the athletic office. • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Leadership • Work to enhance and display the philosophy and objectives of the department. • Work with the Athletic Trainer, Director of Athletics to ensure proper medical assistance is available and plans are in order for emergency situations. • Administer the District athletic codes. • Maintain orderly records of equipment/uniform issued and collects all issued materials. • Perform such other duties, consistent with this position, as determined by the principal/athletic director.
Additional Items:
Schedule must be flexible. Will include evenings and weekends.
Good communication skills.
Three years of varsity coaching experience preferred.
Previous experience working with high-school aged athletes preferred.
Follow guidelines for any fundraising activities used to raise funds for additional items for the team that are unable to be provided by the athletic office.
