Summary:

Creates evidence-based programs that incorporate and achieve the dimensions of sensory, social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and physical health and wellness critical to the successful aging experience of our residents, and particularly those who are experiencing memory loss/dementia, behaviors, and younger population.

Monitors and intervenes as required to ensure facilities comply with state and federal regulations, company and professional best practices related to activities, substance use disorders and memory care. Assists with education, orientation, and survey management for the region under the guidance and direction of the VPCS, VPO and Regional Director of Social Services

Qualifications:

Education:

  • BS in Recreation Therapy preferred or Bachelor’s degree in human service field, with relevant experience*
  • BS in Occupational Therapy preferred, with relevant experience or Certification as Occupational Therapy Assistant, with relevant experience

Licenses/Certification: 

  • Certified Recreation Therapist preferred or
  • Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or
  • Certified Activity Director (NCCAP or state specific)
  • Certifications as required by state regulations (Industry certifications may include NCCAP, NCCDP, CADDCT or CTRS)

Experience:

  • 5 yrs of experience leading multi-site, programming efforts for life enrichment and memory care services in skilled nursing
  • Experience in management/administrative duties preferred

Job Functions:

  • Design, plan, and ensure consistent implementation of programming standards, policies and programs focused on memory loss/dementia/behaviors that positively impact the delivery of service to our residents
  • Develop and provide oversight for the design of person-centered life enrichment/engagement programs that are appropriate in optimizing resident participation based on resident diagnosis, interests, and abilities.
  • Create and direct the delivery of initial and on-going training to facility team members related to standards, policies, and programs. Once implemented ensure programming standards are executed effectively and consistently.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures
  • Through in-service training, educates all staff members on approaches and models.
  • Assist with QCR and survey management in care specialty areas
  • Collaborates with social services personnel in developing intervention strategies for residents with evident psychosocial concerns
  • Consults with Interdisciplinary Team on residents who may have behavioral disturbance or symptoms of a mood disorder, making recommendations based on observed and documented interests and needs.
  • Provides other associated duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:   

  • Knowledgeable of current and innovative evidence-based wellness theories and practices related to aging and Alzheimer’s disease/dementia as well as substance use disorders, PTSD, and other related mental diagnosis
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, and implement person-centered and socially based events, including individual and group activities. 
  • Skill in team building, collaborating with other disciplines
  • Articulate writing skills
  • Good oral communication techniques 
  • Ability to assess resident moods and revise approach accordingly
  •  Willing to advocate for resident needs and desires, protect resident rights
  • Knowledge in variety of activity approaches
