The Camp Counselor is an important role in the YMCA’s childcare and camp programs. They will be a part of an on-site team organizing and implementing YMCA facility and camp program activities, and developing skills for children and their families from kindergarten to 5th grade. Shifts are part-time, morning and afternoon; evenings possible for other programming.
Responsibilities:- Supervises a group of children and parent groups, homeschool families
 - Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values
 - Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards
 - Attends staff meetings and trainings
 - Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
 - Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions
 - All staff are required to participate in trainings to reduce the risk of child abuse to understand their abuse risk management responsibilities
 
- High School diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred
- Associates in Child Development, Recreation or related field a plus
 
 - 1 year experience working with children less than 13 years of age required
 - Previous experience working with children preferably in a childcare setting
 - Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: art, songs/music, skits, sports, and recreational games, outdoor activities, etc
 - CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training required to be completed along with other trainings after hire
