Acuity is seeking a Commercial Underwriting Intern to aid in the selection, retention, and pricing of commercial risks while conforming to established underwriting policies, practices and standards.  The Commercial Lines Underwriting Intern will collaborate with leadership, management, underwriting, premium audit, and loss control to learn about commercial insurance and contribute to Acuity’s growing, profitable book of commercial business. Start Date: Summer 2026

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist Underwriters in reviewing requests for quotations, new applications and renewal business for the commercial lines of insurance.  Obtain needed underwriting information, analyze all available facts, and make sound and consistent underwriting decisions, in accordance with the company's underwriting policies, practices, and standards.
  • Assist Underwriters in monitoring in-force business as occasioned by requests for changes, losses, coverage additions and deletions, and other activity to ensure that the risk continues to be acceptable in accordance with Acuity's underwriting standards and practices.
  • Study insurance policies, manuals, portfolios, rating plans, and periodicals to enhance their knowledge of the commercial lines of insurance and to keep abreast of current happenings in the insurance industry.
  • Engage with different departments at Acuity to understand differing roles and process workflows.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and adapt to change.
  • Excellent skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
  • Effectively organize and accomplish tasks in a self-sufficient, timely manner.
  • Assistance with department wide events.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION:

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program pursuing a degree in Insurance and/or Risk Management or similar with a grade point average at or above 3.0.  Eligible candidates must be a rising sophomore, junior or senior on start date.

EXPERIENCE:

Entry Level. Customer service experience and experience working in teams preferred.
