Loyola Academy Additional Information: Show/Hide Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of a high-caliber, engaging, and vibrant extracurricular theatre program that welcomes and enhances the skills of students of varied abilities, interest levels, and backgrounds.
Lead the coordination of their responsibilities with Theatre Faculty and Theatre Operations Manager in the execution of extracurricular activities, including: plays, musicals, workshops, master classes, summer programming (including middle school theatre arts programming), guest artist programming. Assign leadership roles of adults and students to extracurricular Theatre programming.
Envision and implement the addition of new extracurricular programming, which may include: additional plays and/or musicals, one-act plays, student written/directed plays, blackbox series.
Contribute to the development of extracurricular programs that align with the shared goals and practices of the Fine Arts Department, the Theatre curricular program, and Student Activities.
Supervise, develop, and evaluate the performance of extracurricular Theatre arts personnel.
Work with Theatre, Choir, Band, and Orchestral Faculty and the Theatre Operations Manager in the design and implementation of annual extracurricular programming, and the scheduling and operations of theatre space.
Coordinate with the Theatre Operations Manager in securing external partner usage of the Performing Arts Center.
Works with necessary persons (e.g. Communications Team) in the marketing of extracurricular Theatrical performances.
Guide and develop in positive, supportive, and engaging ways the extracurricular student growth in important areas of the Theatre arts, including: student leadership of performances (e.g. Student Directors), characterization, staging, text analysis, ensemble-building, choreography, costume design, set design and construction (including safety protocols for use of tools), lighting design, sound design, and vocal and physical preparation. Coordinate with Theatre Faculty on the development of these skills.
Coordinate field trips, student experiences, workshops, and mini-courses presented by guest artists and professionals. These experiences are likely to be planned in conjunction with Theatre Faculty.
Counsel students to and through the processes of applying to summer camps, awards recognitions, and college admissions. These experiences are likely to be planned in conjunction with Theatre Faculty.
Establish and coordinate the Theatre Arts Parents Group in developing and implementing yearly activities.
Establish or enhance relationships with professional organizations: ITA, IHSTF, IHSMTA, NAAT, SDC, AEA, etc.
Develop and oversee the annual theatre productions budget.
Work with the Advancement Team to secure funding for extracurricular Theatre Arts programming.
Coordinate with necessary persons (including, the Principal, Fine Arts Department Chair, Theatre Faculty, Facilities Director, COO, Theatre Operations Manager) about the design of future capital needs related to Theatre Arts.
Assist the Fine Arts Department Chair with the hiring, evaluation, and collaborative work of contract workers related to extracurricular programming.
Develop, visit, and enhance relationships with feeder schools, which may include coordination with the Admissions Team. Coordinate with the Fine Arts Department Chair and Theatre Faculty to enhance student matriculation into Theatre courses and extracurricular programming.
Attend and assist with Fine Arts events as needed.
This role will occasionally require evening and weekend hours, based on performance and student needs.
A BFA or BA in Theatre, Master’s degree preferred in Theatre, Education, Directing, and/or Arts Administration or equivalent degree or experience in theatre and/or theatre education.
At least five years of experience working with students, preferably adolescents, in theatre productions including musicals, plays and workshops.
Three to five years of professional experience as a director, performer, or leader in the field of theatre.
Ability to coordinate a team with fairness and empathy while having a clear vision for student-focused programming.
Current with contemporary professional practices in the areas of acting, design, and program development.
Knowledge of the workings of a large theatre, including lighting, set building, logistics and planning.
Expert knowledge of historical and contemporary plays, musicals, devised works, and season implementation.
Ability to inspire and challenge student actors, designers, and technicians with cutting edge theatre practices and season programming.
Creativity and confidence in promoting the theatre program to the entire community; building alliances with our neighbors, collaborators, and professional companies.
Collaborates well with students, fellow Theatre and Performing Arts team members, school administration, Counselors, parents, and others with interest in the extracurricular Theatre program.

The salary range for this role is $6,000-$75,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
