Required
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
- Some experience in general office administration.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Knowledge of, and/or ability to quickly learn, the operation of an electronic/audio fire and intrusion detection system.
- Knowledge of, and/or ability to quickly learn, the location of FCPS schools and to read and interpret building diagrams, including detector locations.
- Ability to operate a computer, peripheral equipment, and related software.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle crisis situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Provides continuous monitoring of the Silent Knight central electronic/audio fire and intrusion detection/alerting system.
- Upon receiving an alarm signal, either contacts the appropriate FCPS security and/or Fairfax County fire or police agencies or makes a decision concerning the appropriate action to take to resolve the issue.
- Maintains a log of all calls.
- Maintains a file of incident reports.
- Monitors fire drills of all FCPS facilities and follows established guidelines to prevent the unnecessary response of fire units.
- Enters into the Silent Knight computer system pertinent data on each alarm and maintains records, as required.
- Periodically compiles and generates required and ad hoc reports from the Silent Knight database.
- Coordinates with the Department of Information Technology, Field Services section, personnel on security intrusion zone changes and installation of new security devices.
- Ensures Silent Intrusion System (SIS) zone maps are correct and updated regularly.
- Prepares backup files.
- Checks unrestored signals and performs general office support and serves as a backup in the utilization of computer entry, retrieval, and printing tasks.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
