Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service through building relationships and assisting customers with purchases, including cashier performing cashier duties such as: receiving payments, scanning items, pricing, handling cash, providing change, balancing drawer, and processing card transactions This position will also stock products, ensure a properly displayed and maintained sales product line for optimal sell through, price product and sharing product knowledge.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides exceptional customer service to Retail Garden Center customers.
- Assist customers with sales of ladies clothing and accessories
- Demonstrates quality sales techniques and function as a role model providing a leading example of proper conduct and communication, adhering to/enforcing company policies.
- Enhances customers’ shopping experience and creates a pleasant shopping environment.
- Engages customers and builds rapport and relationships to encourage return visits.
- Perform cash register transactions including accepting payment and cash handling.
- Receives and processes all payments according to standard procedures.
- Completes, processes, and maintains applicable paperwork and records.
- Completes reconciliation of cash drawers and receipts daily.
- Maintain stock, displays and a clean store environment
- Maintains the highest standard of exceptional customer service for all Bruce Company customers.
- Serves as subject matter expert and provide management, training and oversight for the POS system.
- Establish a basic knowledge of various products, availability from various manufacturers/ growers and purchasing benefits available.
- Maintains clean, organized and safe work environment.
- Develops familiarity with other products and items sold through the retail garden center, assisting in other areas as needed.
- Set standards for a satisfactory company image that invites customers to repeat their business.
- Follows company safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has no supervisor duties assigned.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed indoors.
- May have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat or cold).
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required for duties such as equipment operation that expose the individual to elevated noise levels.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual will demonstrate and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The ability to effectively communicate and interact, in a positive manner, with all Company personnel, regulatory agencies, customers, consultants and other contractor personnel is also required. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Experience:
- Previous experience working in a retail setting is required.
- Prior cash handling or cash register experience is preferred.
Specific Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Proficient math and computer skills.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
Physical Requirements:
- Stands and walks for long periods of time throughout the day.
- Squats, stoops, or kneels and lifts objects from ground frequently.
- Full extension of arms above head and in front of body.
- Consistently lifts weight of up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally carries and pushes/pulls weights of up to 75 pounds.
- Fine motor skills required for use of small equipment and hand tools.
Job Specifications
- Full Time Seasonal position (approximately 35-40 hours per week).
- Ability to work a minimum of two weekends per month (generally every other Saturday and Sunday) is required.
- Additional hours may be required as workload dictates.
