JOB OBJECTIVE: The Director of Strategic Site Operations will serve as the senior-most facilitator and integrator at Promega’s PBI site in San Luis Obispo. This role is responsible for coordinating site-wide execution of operational, scientific, and strategic objectives across functions. The Director will lead through influence, facilitation, and accountability rather than direct reporting authority—working across Manufacturing, R&D, Facilities, and Quality to ensure the site operates in alignment with Promega’s enterprise vision.
Modeled after Promega’s facility leaders, this role is expected to ensure business continuity, safety, and infrastructure integrity—while also serving as the local strategic interface for cross-functional execution.
Estimated starting salary range is $175,000 - $185,000/yr.
The full salary range for this position is $167,426 - $251,140/yr.
The overall salary range for this role provides for growth beyond this initial starting salary range. Base pay offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. Estimated starting salary range is based upon market competitiveness and internal equity. CORE DUTIES:
Facilitative Site Leadership
1. Serve as the senior coordinator of day-to-day site operations, maintaining visibility across functions (e.g., Manufacturing, Quality, Facilities, R&D).
2. Facilitate alignment and collaboration across PBI’s functional leaders—without formal reporting authority—to drive execution of shared goals.
3. Partner with corporate teams to ensure PBI’s contribution to global operations is timely, effective, and well-communicated.
4. Supervise and oversee administrative staff at PBI.
5. Serve as a connecting bridge between PBI and the local community in and around San Luis Obispo.
Operational Continuity & Site Stewardship
1. Act as the site’s functional steward, ensuring infrastructure reliability, safety, and uninterrupted operations—akin to a Promega campus leader.
2. Coordinate closely with Facilities, EH&S, and Engineering to anticipate and address operational risks.
3. Serve as the first point of coordination in any urgent or cross-functional site matters (e.g., equipment issues, utility disruptions, regulatory events).
4. Serve as a main connection between PBI and the broader San Luis Obispo community.
5. Champion continuous improvement and evolution of site practices, remaining adaptive to new technologies and organizational needs.
Strategic Execution & Alignment
1. Translate objectives from corporate leadership—Operations and Manufacturing, R&D, and Strategy —into site-level priorities and timelines. Act as a feedback conduit between site operations and senior leadership, ensuring local insights shape corporate decisions.
2. Ensure the site remains aligned with enterprise-wide standards, systems, and decision-making frameworks.
3. Champion the integration of AI technologies into site operations and business processes, partnering with corporate teams to identify, pilot, and scale AI-driven improvements. Apply AI and digital tools not only to improve efficiency but to deepen scientific discovery and human-centered innovation.”
4. Ensure PBI’s continued alignment with Promega enterprise systems, processes, and culture. Ensure that site-level decisions reflect awareness of broader system interdependencies across Promega’s enterprise.
Team Enablement & Culture Leadership
1. Support the functional leaders at PBI through coaching, facilitation, and problem-solving.
2. Promote Promega’s values and cultural consistency across the site, ensuring a collaborative and mission-aligned team environment.
3. Serve as a cultural ambassador, fostering a local expression of Promega’s global mission of improving life through science.
4. Help surface challenges, risks, or morale issues to relevant corporate leaders.
5. Demonstrate inclusion through their own words and actions and be accountable for a safe workspace. Act with kindness, curiosity, and respect for others.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
1. 10+ years experience in site operations, manufacturing, or facility management, with a strong preference for experience in biotech, pharma, or life sciences environments.
2. Demonstrated success in leading through influence in matrixed environments.
3. Experience working in cross-functional settings involving science, quality, operations, and engineering.
4. Strong systems thinking, operational coordination, and team facilitation skills.
5. Experience with digital transformation or AI adoption in operational or scientific workflows strongly preferred.
6. High degree of maturity, trust-building ability, and political acumen.
