Job Description:Job Overview:
The Transportation Planner will support our AECOM Greater Pennsylvania Planning team within our Transportation business line. The candidate will work under the direction of transportation and environmental planning staff as a highway noise specialist on a part-time basis.
The candidate will lead traffic noise impact studies, perform field measurements, analyze data using tools like the FHWA traffic noise model (TNM), and prepare technical reports for transportation projects ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The candidate will also evaluate noise abatement measures, such as noise walls, and communicate findings to the clients in public for transportation projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region and beyond.
Utilizes a strong understanding of acoustics and noise control principles.
Anticipated to operate as a Task Lead and will be responsible for managing several projects simultaneously, while adhering to timelines and budgets.
The candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including public officials and community members.
Travel throughout the region and potentially the country may be required to visit project sites and/or attend public meetings.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, acoustical science, or environmental policy and 6 years of relevant noise modeling and noise impact study preparation in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and/or Delaware or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
- As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, acoustical science, or environmental policy (or closely related fields).
- 10+ years of relevant experience in acoustics and/or noise control.
- Familiarity with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Park Service (NPS), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and/or Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations and guidance with respect to noise/acoustics
- Transit or transportation experience; especially PennDOT, DelDOT, NJDOT, PA Turnpike Commission, and/or Amtrak and familiarity with agency processes.
- Competency using ArcGIS software, Google Earth Pro, AutoCAD, or Microstation.
- Experience working with architects, engineers, developers, and contractors.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team on large projects.
- Experience with equipment and procedures relating to conducting acoustical measurements.
- Competence with Excel (database manipulation, formulas, conditional formatting, etc.)
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak effectively in public.
- Ability to write clear technical reports and deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences.
