Position: Special Education Liaison
Terms of Employment: Full time, 10 month position - temporary if hired after contractual start date for teachers
Reports to: Building Principal
Salary: Current teacher salary schedule
Position Overview
The Special Education Liaison will support district efforts to strengthen intervention and instruction for students with disabilities. This position provides vision, guidance, and support across elementary and secondary schools to ensure high-quality, data-driven instruction and equitable access to services. The Liaison will be a central instructional leader and systems builder, partnering with school teams to drive improved outcomes for all learners.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership – Special Education
- Serve as the district support for special education instruction across elementary and secondary schools.
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and administrators to design and implement effective instructional practices aligned to IEPs and student needs.
- Model and support evidence-based practices for students with disabilities.
- Lead professional learning communities and professional development focused on intervention and specially designed instruction.
- Partner with school-based staff to monitor student progress and use data to inform instructional decision-making.
- Collaborate with building leadership teams to ensure fidelity of tiered instruction and intervention.
- Analyze data at the student, school, and district level to identify trends, needs, and impact of interventions.
- Ensure that processes align with IDEA and general education supports, supporting prevention and reducing over identification.
Collaboration & Communication
- Serve as a liaison between district office, school leadership, and instructional staff.
- Support alignment of district goals with special education priorities.
- Provide coaching, technical assistance, and ongoing feedback to staff.
- Communicate best practices, expectations, and resources effectively to all stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field required.
- Valid [State] certification in Special Education;
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching or leadership experience in special education.
- Deep knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices, specially designed instruction, and intervention.
- Demonstrated experience with MTSS design, implementation, and progress monitoring.
- Strong skills in coaching adults, facilitating professional learning, and leading collaborative teams.
- Excellent data analysis, problem-solving, and communication skills.
