Qualifications:

Previous experience working with groups of children.
High School Diploma required.
Associate Degree/60 college credits or successful passing of the Para-Pro Exam strongly preferred.
Knows and understands district and behavior services policies and procedures
PMT trained, understanding crisis prevention and verbal intervention/de-escalation techniques

Certification: It is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain a guard card within 3 months of the date of employment.

Terms of Employment: 10-month schedule, 184 workdays, 37.5 hours per week. Starting pay in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement is $24.36 per hour. Benefits include a comprehensive medical package and tuition reimbursement.

Internal Applicants: Regular employees of the Torrington Public Schools who are current members of the Paraprofessionals' union. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, "Paraprofessionals shall not be eligible to apply for lateral positions that become vacant after August 15th. Notwithstanding the preceding sentence, paraprofessionals shall be eligible to apply for promotional opportunities at any time."
