Community & Visitor Experience Manager Job Description
Join the Play and Creativity at KidZone Museum!
KidZone Museum is a nonprofit children’s museum where families come to play, discover, and connect. We’re looking for a Community & Visitor Experience Manager who will ensure smooth daily operations while building meaningful connections with families and partners in the community.
If you’re organized, people-centered, and thrive in a creative, mission-driven environment, this role offers the chance to make a real impact both inside and outside the museum.
How You’ll Make a Difference
Visitor Experience & Operations (Front Desk/MOD)
- Ensure front desk operations run smoothly with excellent customer service and clear communication.
- Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD): support staff, troubleshoot issues, and make timely decisions to ensure safe and smooth operations.
- Supervise, train, and support front-line staff and volunteers.
- Oversee retail sales, memberships, bookings, and daily revenue transactions.
- Coordinate and manage group visits, birthday parties, and rentals.
- Monitor and address facility needs, including exhibit materials, cleanliness, and restocking.
- Resolve visitor concerns with professionalism and empathy, ensuring every family feels welcomed and valued.
- Support museum safety during winter months by assisting with snow removal (light shoveling, salting, or calling contractors as needed). Snow-related tasks are a shared responsibility among scheduled staff.
Community Outreach & Engagement
- Support the representation of the museum at schools, neighborhoods, and community partner organizations to connect with underserved families.
- Help build and maintain positive relationships with families, guardians, and community partners.
- Help plan and implement family-focused outreach events (on-site and off-site).
- Share museum offerings and follow up to encourage community participation.
- Gather outreach stories, photos, and testimonials for communication and grant support.
- Help track outreach data and help maintain the outreach database.
- Attend select community meetings and networking events to support visibility and partnerships.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with internal and external communications by relaying outreach stories and updates.
- Support grant writing and grant management as needed.
- As a small nonprofit, we value teamwork and adaptability, with every staff member contributing to 2-4 large museum events per year
Why You’ll Love This Role
- Be part of a collaborative, creative, mission-driven team.
- Play a key role in creating memorable experiences for families.
- Gain hands-on leadership and community engagement experience.
- Work in a fun, playful environment where no two days are alike.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven strengths in customer service, leadership, and communication.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; able to adapt quickly.
- Computer literacy; proficient with Google Workspace and learning new systems.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse families and community partners.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
- Experience in visitor engagement, outreach, hospitality, or nonprofit work preferred.
Position Details
- Full-Time, Tuesday–Saturday (with occasional Monday or Sunday as needed for events or programs)
- Compensation: $22/hour during the paid 2-week training period; increases to $24/hour upon successful completion of training
