We are seeking a proactive and skilled Director of Cyber Security to join our team, serving both Socket Fiber and IdeaTek. In this vital role, you will be responsible for protecting our network infrastructure, customer data, and internal systems from evolving cyber threats. You will partner with other company leaders to build a culture of security awareness.  You will be a key part of a dedicated team committed to providing secure and reliable fiber internet services to our communities.


Location:   This role supports operations across our Kansas locations (Wichita and Buhler) and our Missouri location (Columbia). The position requires up to 30% travel to key office sites as business needs arise, with remote work flexibility available.  


Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Oversight
    • Design, implement, and manage security architecture, ensuring resilience of networks, systems, and applications.
    • Oversee daily security monitoring, log analysis, and threat detection activities, leveraging SIEM and other security platforms.
    • Direct vulnerability management, penetration testing, and remediation efforts across systems and applications.
    • Lead the security incident response lifecycle, including triage, containment, forensic analysis, eradication, recovery, and post-incident reporting.
  • Compliance & Governance
    • Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, contractual obligations, and data protection laws.
    • Establish governance practices for risk management, access control, change management, and incident reporting.
    • Prepare and present security metrics, risk assessments, and compliance reports to senior leadership and, where applicable.
  • Organizational Enablement
    • Provide guidance and training to employees on cybersecurity best practices, fostering a culture of security awareness.
    • Partner with business units to integrate security into operational processes, project planning, and vendor management.
    • Serve as a liaison between executive leadership, IT teams, and business stakeholders on cybersecurity-related matters.
    • Stay informed on emerging threats, security technologies, and best practices within telecommunications and ISP sectors.

Requirements 

  • Advanced Training in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years experience in progressively responsible cybersecurity roles, including network security, system administration, and incident response. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with security frameworks and best practices (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS, GDPR, HIPAA where applicable).
  • Proficiency with enterprise-class security tools, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and vulnerability management platforms.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex security issues and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferences

  • Experience in the Telecommunications or ISP industry.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CEH, or CompTIA Security+.
