Summary:
The Student Assistant reports to the Senior Director of Enterprise Risk Management and supports a range of risk-related initiatives across the university. The role offers exposure to emergency preparedness, environmental health and safety, insurance and risk services, and enterprise risk strategy. Student Assistants contribute to projects that improve business processes, assess risks, and support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities:
Assist with research, data collection, and analysis for risk assessments and business process reviews.
Support documentation and tracking of risk mitigation activities and compliance efforts.
Help prepare materials for meetings, trainings, and emergency planning exercises.
Participate in cross-functional projects and contribute to team discussions.
Perform administrative tasks and maintain organized records.
Attend required trainings and team meetings.
Respond to emails and project requests in a timely manner.
Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director or team leads.
Competencies:
Interest in risk management, public administration, business operations, environmental health and safety, or related fields.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
Ability to identify opportunities for automation and develop user-friendly tools or resources.
Professionalism, reliability, and a proactive attitude.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-Time
Student.
The position end date is Friday, April 25, 2026.
Active Federal Work Study award.
Salary Range:
$17.95 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Must be currently enrolled at American University with a valid AU email account.
Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Successful review of judicial record.
Availability to work 5–12 hours per week during business hours (flexible scheduling).
Must be able to attend mandatory training sessions.
