During the 2024 election cycle, Switchboard worked with over 2,700 campaigns from school board to Presidential races, strengthening Democratic digital fundraising and organizing programs up and down the ballot. Our bread and butter is our automated messaging through which organizations have sent billions of messages. But we’ve continued to build out an integrated suite of tools including an emailer, forms builder, and fundraising analytics dashboards, with the goal of bringing together coordination across outreach channels, powerful analytics, and an easy-to-use platform.
At Switchboard, we have the potential to surface valuable information for campaigns and organizations who are using our platform to reach voters and supporters. Using the vast amount of data generated on the platform, we’re looking for a Data Scientist to improve the availability of insights for stakeholders internally and externally.
You’ll join our cross-functional team, working with our Customer Experience and Product teams to deliver recommendations and build tooling so our customers are more effective by default. This might mean building reports that show user adoption of new features, diving deep into data investigations that aim to improve customers’ email deliverability, or building a classification model to help group content by topic.
You should apply if you’re comfortable communicating with stakeholders of any technical skill level, producing analytical reports that are self-serve, and staying up-to-date with machine learning tooling. You’ll be asked to answer questions you might not initially know how to answer, solve puzzles in the data to help us interpret what’s happening, write production-level SQL, and script tools in Python to get a user out of a pinch.
Responsibilities Include:
- Working collaboratively with the Customer Experience team and our users to provide insights and guidance on texting and emailing programs or other tooling.
- Designing tools and workflows that will help campaigns and organizations run more efficient and effective digital programs through evidence and experimentation.
- Building meaningful visualizations and reports for both internal and external use.
- Using statistical techniques to identify, analyze, and interpret data.
- Helping build and contribute to a positive team culture.
Ideal Candidates:
- 2-4+ years of experience working hands-on with SQL (preferably with dbt) and either Python or R.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Operate with humility and empathy: understanding both the promise and the limitations of what data can tell us, and the priorities of our customers who are often in high-pressure situations.
- Are comfortable taking on projects in new areas, and are able to learn quickly to develop the expertise to execute on those projects with a high degree of independence, often needing to make decisions without perfect information.
- Have experience with tools like: jupyter notebooks (Hex, Colab, etc.) and databases (BigQuery, Postgres, etc.).
It’s helpful but not required if you have:
- Experience with texting and email tools and their associated data (Switchboard, Scale to Win, ActionKit, Action Network)
- Experience working for campaigns or other demonstrated interest in the progressive ecosystem.
Compensation
- $140,000- $185,000 annual salary and an equity grant
- Switchboard covers 100% of health, dental, and vision coverage for employees and 75% for dependents
- 21 days of paid time off plus federal holidays
- Unlimited sick leave
- 12 weeks paid parental leave for parents of any gender, including adoptive parents
- 401(K) match with immediate vesting
