Minority Health Program Coordinator at Lucas County

1. Oversees all Health Department functions supporting the goals of the Local Office on Minority Health, implementing the Project Action Plan as outlined by the Commission on Minority Health. Proactively seeks and secures operational funding to advance minority health initiatives in Lucas County and ensures the accurate and timely completion of all required reports.
2. Collaborates with internal departments, external partners, and agencies to establish goals and implement strategies that achieve the objectives of the Local Office on Minority Health Program.  
3. Collects, monitors, and analyzes data and research to evaluate programs, enhance effectiveness, and drive positive outcomes in minority health strategies, initiatives, and plans.
4. Coordinates Minority Health Advisory meetings, public speaking engagements, community activities, and other events. Manages all public relations efforts for the Commission in collaboration with the Health Department’s Public Information Officer.
5. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of cultural competency and health equity issues and their impact on health disparities.
6. Develops, ensures implementation, and oversees policies and procedures for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS), including program self-assessments.
7. Develops targeted health marketing plans to address priority disease states and health conditions.
8. Plans and coordinates all events, activities, and marketing efforts related to Minority Health Month, while fostering and supporting external collaborations.
9. Serves as a liaison by establishing, promoting, and maintaining collaborative long-term partnerships with various community agencies, groups and governmental entities to bring awareness to health disparities in identified communities and target populations 
10. Develops policies and strategies to support health efforts and advocates for the implementation of strategies and policies to reduce health disparities within the community. 
11. Assists in the development of educational materials tailored to the needs of agency service providers, ensuring cultural, educational, and socio-economic sensitivity for diverse community groups. Oversees, coordinates, and completes special projects, including grant writing and reporting.
12. Facilitates health education programs that address cultural issues and health disparities, empowering target communities to improve health outcomes. 
13. Establishes and maintains relationships and partnerships with minority-owned or -operated businesses, faith-based organizations, and other community stakeholders serving minority populations.
14. Adheres to PHAB core competencies including, but not limited to: T1: 1.2.1 - 1.2.3, 2.1.2, 2.2.5, 2.4.5, 3.1.1-3.2.4, 3.2.6- 3.3.6, and 4.1.4. 
15. Participates in quality improvement efforts and achieving PHAB accreditation requirements. This position will be responsible for using quality improvement (QI) processes and/or techniques to improve  program efficacy.
16. Attends and participates in conferences, seminars, trainings, or related education classes as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, or closely related field 
• 1 year experience addressing inequities in a range of political and professional environments 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to communicate across a broad cross-section of groups and individuals 
• Ability to work independently and as a team member 
• Grant Writing and reporting experience 
• Ability to work non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends, and ability to work evening and weekend hours 
• Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be insurable under the Lucas County Commissioners’ Risk Management.

ADA SPECIFICATIONS

This position is classified as Office -2 setting and performs a wide range of functions for the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department. Further information may be obtained from Human Resources.
