Skills and Requirements
- Should be familiar with rules and practices for not-for-profit organization governance
- Demonstrated skills in helping to organize and run meetings
- Experience with executive office / society administration practices. This includes setting project priorities in coordination with overall department priorities; demonstrated skill at coordinating multiple projects simultaneously; establishing appropriate protocol for dealing with IEEE volunteers, staff, vendors and customers; observing necessary discretion with confidential material.
- Must have excellent communication and influencing skills to be able to communicate effectively with membership and staff of an international organization
- Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
- Demonstrated judgment skills to set priorities without supervision
- Must be able to travel internationally/domestically 3 to 5 times per year
- Must be a technologically savvy knowledge worker who seeks out technology solutions to business challenges. Specific technology knowledge and experience needed to produce the desired outcomes include the following: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email and scheduling. Ability to use Internet as research tool. Ability to learn new tools such as the newly created Agenda Tool for PSPB agendas and attachments and Web Conferencing tools.
- Proficiency in business writing, e.g., agendas, minutes, action plans.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills; Incumbent should possess a combination of education and experience that has prepared him or her to work with senior staff and volunteer management in a fast paced, dynamic work environment that requires excellence in execution and strict attention to detail. This is very important because he/she will liaise with IEEE Senior volunteers and management on a regular basis in coordination of activities of the various Publications oversight groups and communications with key IEEE functions.
- Must be a strong team player and be able to engage team members in achieving shared goals. Issues must be addressed in a clear and unambiguous manner, while exercising tact, and maintaining confidentiality where necessary. Discretion, respect for confidentiality and tact in all things is expected and required of this individual.
- Must be able to proactively identify problems, assess their impact and take appropriate action. Problem solving ranges from routine to complex. Must have the ability to identify opportunities and areas of improvement and propose and implement means and ways for their achievement.
