HIGH SCHOOL THESPIAN TROUPE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
An International Thespians Society (ITS) Troupe Director is responsible for overseeing the Thespian troupe at a school, which is an honor society for high school theatre students. The director is the main point of contact between the school, the students, and ITS. They guide students in developing theatrical skills, manage troupe activities, and foster a love of theatre.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing instruction and mentorship in acting, directing, technical theatre, and other theatre-related areas.
- Plan and facilitate workshops with local theatre professionals.
- Organizing and implementing no less than 2 community service projects/year.
- Creating and managing a schedule of troupe activities: fundraisers, community service, field trips, workshops and statewide thespian events.
- Recognizing student achievement and inducting them into the International Thespian Society based on their theatrical contributions.
- Organize and facilitate 2 Induction ceremonies/year and 1 End of the Year/Awards Celebration.
- Collaborate with the school administration and other staff to coordinate troupe activities and events.
- Coordinate activities with Jr. Thespian Troupe Director and members.
- Overseeing the financial aspects of the troupe, including fundraising and managing budgets: Organizing and implementing fundraising events to support Thespian activities. Number of events depends upon how many participants for each Thespian activities and financial need.
- Maintaining accurate records of student participation, membership, and activities. ¦ Managing the ITS point system and documentation of student work in the troupe. Reports to be submitted to ITS for verification.
Overnight/Day trips: Annual HS Thespian Events
- The location of events change from year to year with the exception of the State Festival (Salem, OR). Overnight and travel will be dependent on location.
- The Thespian Troupe Director will manage registration for all events, arrange transportation and accommodations for overnight trips.
1. September: Thespis Leadership Conference (Thespian Officers and future Officers conference)
2. October: : Instafest (Fall competition for performance and design/tech theatre)
3. February: Regionals (Thespians compete in performance and design/tech theatre)
4. April: Oregon Thespians State Festival (Thespians compete in performance and tech theatre, attend workshops and see showcase performances from around the state)
5. June: International Thespians Festival
