Objective

The S&H Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring and continuously improving the safety policy within Nippon Express Belgium. In this role, you will ensure compliance with Belgian welfare legislation and internal safety standards, with a particular focus on the risks in a logistics and freight forwarding environment.

You will act as the point of contact for all safety issues, coordinate preventive actions, support management and be actively present on the work floor. In addition, you will occasionally take on backup tasks within the Sustainability domain, in support of the sustainability policy.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

Legislation and Compliance

  • Ensuring compliance with the Welfare Act, Codex and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Advising management on safety legislation, obligations and areas for improvement.
  • Maintaining contact with external authorities (External Service, FPS WASO, fire brigade, inspections, etc.).

Risk Analysis and Prevention

  • Performing and following up on dynamic risk analyses and workstation analyses.
  • Developing and following up on the Global Prevention Plan and Annual Action Plan.
  • Identifying safety risks and developing corrective and preventive measures.

Training and Awareness

  • Organising and coordinating safety training courses (including forklift trucks, first aid, fire safety, ergonomics).
  • Promoting safety awareness and safety communication within all teams.
  • Supporting the onboarding and training of new employees with regard to safety.

Incident Management and Audits

  • Investigating and analysing incidents and (near) accidents; preparing reports and recommendations.
  • Coordinating internal safety rounds and audits.
  • Preparing and supervising external audits (customers, certifications, inspections).

Operational Support

  • Advising on the safe design of warehouses, workplaces and offices.
  • Supporting ergonomic improvements and well-being initiatives.
  • Managing personal protective equipment and safety equipment.

Sustainability Backup Tasks

  • Supporting the collection and reporting of ESG data and KPIs.
  • Backing up the Sustainability Coordinator in sustainability initiatives and reporting (e.g. Cozero, CO₂ footprint).
  • Participating in projects related to energy efficiency, waste reduction and environmental awareness.

Reporting and Projects

  • Preparing monthly reports on KPIs related to safety and well-being.
  • Initiating and coordinating safety projects (e.g. introduction of new safety procedures or systems).
  • Collaborating with the Facility, HR and Operations teams to integrate safety and sustainability into all processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum Diploma in Prevention Advisor Level 2.
  • Thorough knowledge of welfare legislation, Codex and safety standards.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a logistics, production or industrial environment.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability reporting (ESG, CO₂) is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Good communication skills (Dutch and English, French is a plus).
  • Proactive attitude, persuasiveness and hands-on mentality.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and/or GDP is an advantage.
  • Stress-resistant and decisive.
  • Strong organisational skills and accuracy.
  • Team player with coaching skills.
  • Eye for detail, safety and sustainability.
