Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Systems and Infrastructure Operations, the Cloud Administrator manages and secures various departmental and enterprise-wide cloud services and applications, such as Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft 365, and Azure. This role is responsible for the design, configuration, maintenance, and governance of cloud platforms to meet the operational, security, and strategic needs of the University. The Administrator ensures cloud services align with institutional goals while maintaining security, compliance, and functionality across user populations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the primary cloud tenant administrator for Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft 365, Azure, and other enterprise cloud platforms as assigned.
Develop and enforce governance policies for cloud environments to ensure secure and efficient operation.
Delegate and oversee the administration of specific cloud applications (e.g., Google Workspace, Azure AD, Teams) to other IT personnel, providing guidance and support where necessary.
Monitor and analyze platform performance, usage trends, and security posture; implement optimizations to enhance functionality, cost-efficiency, and security.
Conduct security assessments to ensure configurations minimize risks such as unauthorized access, data breaches, and credential compromise.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new cloud services or integrations, ensuring compliance with security baselines and operational best practices.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of upcoming changes to cloud platforms, evaluate potential impacts, and prepare documentation or communication for end-users and stakeholders.
Research emerging cloud technologies and tools, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and provide strategic recommendations for adoption or migration.
Develop scripts, automation tools, or workflows to enhance the administration and functionality of cloud services.
Contribute to enterprise-wide IT initiatives and projects, particularly those involving cloud platforms and integrations.
Build effective relationships with faculty, staff, and students, ensuring IT services meet the diverse needs of the University.
Act as a subject-matter expert in cloud administration and provide training or support to technical staff and end-users as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
Minimum four (4) years of professional experience managing enterprise-class cloud environments such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or Azur.
Deep knowledge of identity and access management principles, including the least privilege model, multifactor authentication, and conditional access policies.
Proficiency in managing and configuring hybrid cloud infrastructures and services.
Strong understanding of regulatory compliance requirements, such as GDPR, FERPA, or HIPAA, as they apply to cloud platforms in higher education.
Experience with automation tools, scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python), and DevOps practices for managing cloud environments.
Familiarity with data reporting tools and query languages (e.g., Power BI, SQL, or Google Data Studio).
PREFERRED:
Professional certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Google Workspace Administrator, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
Experience managing third-party SaaS platforms (e.g., Zoom, Slack, Smartsheet) and their integrations with enterprise cloud systems.
Familiarity with ITIL practices, project management methodologies, and change management processes.
Strong understanding of higher education-specific use cases, including balancing security requirements with accessibility and usability.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams, including network engineers, systems administrators, instructional designers, and ERP application owners.
Excellent communication skills and ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Proactive approach to learning new technologies and adapting to a rapidly evolving IT landscape.
